Hi again all, wishing to pick some brains again. Just bought some flush muffs for my mercury 500, so I can run it a little longer to set the throttle up right. With them in place, and the hose pipe tap half-turned, there is no water coming through the tell-tale. I've had a weenie bit of wire up the tell tale pipe, no joy. So I believe the water pump is now main suspect. I have read an earlier post regarding removing the lower unit, though it does not state how the gear linkage is disconnected. Will this become apparent when I see it, or is there a procedure for it? Also, with the hose pipe turned on, a small quantity of oil ran out from the water intake grills. Is this something to worry about? I would rather not strip apart the whole lower unit if I can help it, should I just purchase a water pump kit and hope for the best??
