ive just bought a 3.3 merc 1998 2stroke.
if i turn on the fuel tap then petrol leaks out of the carb.
engine will start if i turn off fuel cock and then turn it back on when engine running.
with fuel cock on and engine running its fine at high revs but stalls at low revs
the engine running and fuel cock off it runs great through rev range.
is this a carb float problem. if so what next
Thanks

It does sound like the float is leaking, or sticking. If you take it out and there's petrol in it then it's leaking, and araldite is one way of fixing it.

As suggested it could be due to a punctured/ leaking float or it could be due to a stuck float or needle valve (if it is it will probably free itself as you take it apart.

It could be dirt in the needle valve preventing it from closing.

What next? Take the foat chamber off check that the foat is free and does not contain fuel. check the needle valve.

i took it apart and the needle valve wasn't seating properly due to sticky 2s oil covering the top needle part.
after a good clean its now perfect.
thanks for the help
Nick.
