We would very much appreciate any tips on favourite anchoring spots on this beautiful island.

Cala Santa Galdana and Mahon were great and we spent 2 nights in the Ports IB marina in Cuitadella, very nice indeed. That's where our experience stops! Heading there in a couple of weeks, very much looking forward to pottering around various places with barely a high rise building in sight! (Currently at Palma nova, Mecca otherwise known as Magaluf...).

Thanks in advance :)

My favourite is Cala Son Saura (Just down from Ciutedella and an easy sail across from Pollensa on Majorca). Nothing there and the water is unbelievable. Can get a little crowded over a weekend but generally clears out towards the end of the day. Lovely walks around the Cala but watch where you put your feet as daytripping landlubbers tend to answer the calls of nature about two feet from the paths .

For a longer term stay and added security Cala Fornells is another option. Well protected from everything but the worst Easterlies. Water is available from the local pontoon on the port hand as you enter, a few bars and eateries plus regular bus service to Mahon.

Although it may be tempting to anchor away from the pack - be careful. There are a number of underwater obstacles - like the submarine cable I retrieved in one spot.

There were a few more but I can't remember names and my Pilot and charts are on the boat in Portugal!

Agree with Duncan that Addaya (Addaia?) is well sheltered, didnt try Fornells last year. Enjoyed Cala de Algaiarens but not with any N in the wind or swell - no facilities, no wifi, no mobile signal but beautiful. Anchorages N or S of the shallows connecting Isla Colom to Menorca are good, Es Grau is a small town with the basics available. Whilst we were in Mahon/Teulera the RIB man didnt visit & its a long way into town by road or dinghy - but it is well sheltered. Its probably easier to get into Mahon by bus from Addaya than from the anchorage at Teulera.

Send me a PM as we are in Pollensa now, heading for Menorca/Sardinia shortly (probably in the next week, weather permitting)

Is the entrance to Mahon where we've anchored, Roberto in the rib was great - fresh croissants for breakfast! Thank you for additional places, penciled in the pilot book.
Will pm Robbie, enjoyed Pollensa very much likewise Soller with the tram ride. If you've not had that day out yet we'd recommend it :)

Fornells is good, so is Adaya, just down the coast. Tight entrance but usually space to anchor. Victuals from the shops at the top of the hill. Water from the marina. Also Cala Teuleta in the entrance to Mahon. Used to be a bloke in a rib came round every day offering a delivery service for victuals. Enjoy.

+1 for Fornells. One of our favourites. Adaya is extremely well sheltered but nothing much to do. A little bit further along just behind the Island Isla del Colom (actually met the guy who owned it while we were anchored there) is a good place to anchor just north of Es Grau. You can easily get to Es Grau with the tender (but not the boat as it is very shallow between the main bit of Menorca and the island.

In Fornells, you can anchor in 3m just S of the yacht club clear of the moorings. Land on beach just S of pontoon. Shop here for basics. Taps on N side of club has best water in Balearics.

Addaia, S of narrow has 2m and great shelter. Land at pier on E side and nice walk on footpath to village.

Also Cala Coves is gorgeous. Have to tie one end to a rock.
