I am repairing a little Foreland sailing dinghy. The existing outer and inner timber strips forming the gunwhale project about 4mm above the fibreglass hull which is also about 4mm thick. So there is a 4 x 4mm channel all round the boat to catch water and encourage rot. This channel has been filled with some sort of compound but I've no idea what it is. Can anybody suggest a solution - and no, I don't want to put a capping strip all round the boat!
