Just finished an instructor course with Mendez Marine up the top of the Hamble.

A first class course and thoroughly enjoyable. Learnt oodles of stuff - and also went through all the emotions that its possible to have in a 4 day period of time. (I had a days one-to-one before it started, hence the 4 days)

But the best bit of all was that today during the assessment, there were no less than 2 boats (one sizeable) aground at the top of the Hamble, so our Towing Exercise was very much "for real" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It consisted of strapping Mendez's 7 metre RIB alongside a 12 metre (disabled) motorboat and then berthing the Mobo back on the pontoon.

It was - to be blunt - a thoroughly good crack! However, I was relieved that Jon took the helm for that part of the course.

Anyone who is considering an Instructor Course (or indeed Powerboat Level 2 course) would be very well looked after if they put their trust in Mendez.

I did - and they supported me brilliantly all along the way.

Thanks very much indeed David and Jon.

I owe you one.......... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Well done its a demanding course.
I did mine at Bradwell Sea School in Essex. I would like to say how good they were. I've been involved with boats for nearly 40 years and I learnt a lot from them.

Glad you enjoyed your course Alan.

I purchased my first boat in 1976, so have also had a modest amount of time afloat.

But - as you say - its amazing how much you learn from lads (half your age in some case!) who are doing the job professionally.

And of course the real eye opener is when they do something pretty amazing with the boat and you sit back and think "bugger me - I dont think I'd even attempt that......"
