Has anybody tried these on board? My bunk cushions are pretty hard and tend to give me awfully sore hips in the morning! I may be a pound or two overweight though! .... Do they work? Any particular brand recommended? Will I get a decent night's sleep without having to resort to that extra large G & T to finish up with? Any drawbacks?

SWMBO insisted on getting some of this stuff which I found easy to cut to the right shape with an electric carving knife. She has arthritis in her neck and is very careful of her sleeping arrangements. She swears by it and won't sail without it (not that she sails very often - inland trips only).

I am no lightweight and have no problem with my regular bunk cushions even when I had an arthritic hip. I tried her memory foam topper but found no benefit from it so it seems as though it is a personal thing.

BTW, are your cushions really hard or are they actually soft or thin so you are feeling the hard surface underneath?

We have memory foam topper from Raskelf and are very happy and would never want a mattress of any kind without them again.

However, we also have springy slats under the mattress. We bought ours at LIBS 2005 and they were very expensive. They have been excellent though the slats are losing their spring, now. Not only do they make the bed more comfortable, they prevent all condensation. Many people have bought a similar product from IKEA, I believe, at a fraction of the price?

Fantastic stuff. After reading about this on here, got one and have really got maximum benefit. Far less sore back in the morning. Can't say where to get in UK but I'm sure you will not regret the expense.

We had the memory foam first and then the Ikea slats (£11) the following season. By far the biggest improvement is the Ikea slats. I now prefer sleeping on the boat to my own bed where we also have memory foam. We spend 10 weeks on the boat each year.

Absolutely excellent stuff. I bought a king size topper from Argos, trimmed the foam to fit the bunk and then apllied some 'homeward bounders' to the edges of the cover.
