It is always a delight meeting others from the forum and being able to help them out with something rather obscure because you happen to know somebody else with exactly the right knowledge

Sounds nice and convivial.
I participate in a couple of other forums that are not boaty and they have a ‘general chat’ section which is nice.
Shame this forum does not have such a section in my h. o.

Many moons ago ... I organised a couple of BBQ / Get Togethers of YBW members .... included raffles and prizes from YBW ... (money went to RNLI ....
It was back in the days when YBW Forum had a few occasions of being hacked ...
Maybe someone remembers the big meet in Yarmouth IoW ?? Where we all got to actually meet GC1 !!

I cannot see a “lounge”…
But my intro message also said there was a “forum feedback” section, but I was informed that was a mistake and such a section does not exist.
I also get hit with “Accept or reject Cookies” at EVERY click of a button; I mean every click of a button- novel and becoming a little annoying and I can’t ask forum feedback section because it does not exist (to me at least, even if the introductory welcome says it does).

They are "registered users only" - I have no idea what that means, but perhaps (as a relatively new member) you aren't quite old and jaded enough to be let in?

There's nothing to stop you (or anyone else) organising something. Just make a suggestion in (probably) The Lounge, or some other forum if more appropriate (e.g. Mobos, or one of the area based forums - East Coast Forum, Bristol Channel Forum, Thames Forum).
In the past there have been various meet ups, varying from two or three people to quite a large crowd meeting in a pub, restaurant, yacht club, harbour or whatever. Refueler's one is an example, and people meeting up during the Boat Show in London when that was more popular is another.
The East Coast Forum used to have a meet up every year or three, typically at the end of the season (and known as the 'Laying Down Supper', and I think there was even sometimes a beginning of season 'Fitted Up Supper'
) at a yacht club somewhere reasonably accessible for most those potentially coming (including tidal considerations for those arriving by boat), and an annual summer family friendly 'Pirate Weekend' in Walton Backwaters.
There used to be occasional boat meet ups, e.g. an annual Cherbourg Rally.
I think there are fewer on the forums these days, quite a few 'regulars' having retired from sailing or otherwise having, er, drifted off for whatever reason, and younger generations presumably are generally going elsewhere, so it may be a bit more difficult to generate enough interest, but it doesn't happen unless someone puts their head above the parapet, suggests something, and if enough takers organises it (think herding cats!).

We had a forum cruise from Solent to Poole years ago. About 10 boats and an article in the magazine. Everyone had a great time and was good to put faces to names.

Was that the Yarmouth visit as an alternative to the Cherbourg intended destination? Changed plans due to awful weather. We all dined in an Indian Restaurant (now long gone) above or close to the the old RNLI shed. One member from Poole was rescued by the RNLI because they ran out of fuel in rough sea in Poole Bay. One boat was too far committed off St Kat’s so carried on to Cherbourg in rough weather. The 2nd night was spent in Beaulieu river.

We had three great get together in the Welch med , someone came from Guernsey, one from London and someone came towing a boat from Cornwall his drive shaft snapped 5 miles before conwy so aaAA took hail back to Cornwall . The were weekends, with meals gig racing etc . I think most peeps come to see Kawasaki . They were great times , now in Torquay it’s not so sociable , is it a southern thing .

Torquay, haven’t been in there in years. Last time, we were moored behind a Contessa 26 with 2 couples aboard, improbable though that sounds. They spent a drunken evening discussing the (unverified) fact that one of the girls was a moaner, the other a screamer, and the relative merits of each. Until the lady on the catamaran behind us had a stern word. She had the British youth Laser squad on board, boys in 1 hull, girls in the other. The boys included a certain future Knight. The lady was of course Rosemary Carr. Our kids were too young to understand, but still remember Mrs Carr.
