Hi all

Latest installment in the saga of my new little boat. Santa Theresa is on dry land at Mariner's Farm Boatyard, Lower Rainham, Gillingham. I'm keen to get her in the water pretty soon. Anyone know of anywhere that has available berths for a little Kingfisher 20+? Can be any kind, doesn't need to be pontoons, not fussy, just desperate to sail her!

If you want a marina berth try Chatham Maritime Marina 24 hour lock access 01634 899200, Gillingham Marina they have tidal and a non tidal berths, tidal berths sit in the mud between piles 01634 280022, Victory Moorings in Chatham Historic Dock Yard 07785 971797.

The following web site lists most berthing and clubs on the Medway

You'll need a fairly good dinghy for a Medway mooring as the tide can run strong. There are certainly some available at Queenborough at present (contact Hrbour Master via Swale District Council). A good alternative for you might be the marina at Hoo, which has a few spaces at present. Gillingham marina also has mud berths available, much cheaper than their deep water berths (which are full up anyway).

For addresses and contact information for these, and other places in north Kent, check out this site: Sailing in Kent

If you are lucky they may have a berth left at Chatham. For your boat you should be able to get an annual berth for about £1,300 or so, a bargain really as they have good security, lovely facilities and very friendly bertholders /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Would be nice to see you in there, and would save the cost of a tender.

Lovely, thanks for those, I'll give 'em a try. The guy I bought the boat from also mentioned the pesky tide, and had upgraded the engine on the Kingfisher from 4hp to 8hp. We've got a tender that takes the 4hp, I'm hoping that'll be OK, and are planning to buy a higher powered engine for the boat...

From memory, 8hp should be a good choice, 4hp would be a bit light. Do you have the inboard, well version of the Kingfisher 20+? I think the well was originally designed around a Johnson 6. It was possible to swing the outboard bracket upwards to bring the outboard into the body of the hull so that the well hatch could be shut. That noticeably improved performance under sail, without the hassle of removing the outboard. Worth looking for an outboard of similar dimensions if you are buying.

I'm also Kent based and kept my yacht on the Medway until a couple of months ago. Will look out for you! (Are you sail number 271?)

Yup 271 - that's us! And I have just been looking for a Johnson 6 - saw on the Kingfisher Owners Assoc. website that's what they started with. And yes, Santa Theresa de Jesus has an inboard well - a very cunning thing!

Good stuff, will let you know how we get on - and an extra pair of eyes peeled on our behalf will be great, thanks.

Thanks for those suggestions, all, fantastic. Discovered Mariners Farm itself had free moorings so Santa Teresa is going in the water tomorrow - can't wait! I'm going to look into some of your suggestions for longer term mooring, though ultimate aim is to bring her home to Brighton/Southwick, some day, some day...

Happy days!
