I end up in Chatham dockyard for the commercial vessels every now and then so if time is not important then could pop and see you if you were really struggling. What issues are you facing?
The depth reading periodically defaults to between 4-5m and freezes. This has happened three times this season. Prior to that, only twice in 7 years. On the previous occasions powering the transducer off and on has restored normal operation. Last weekend it did not. This weekend the system faulted once on start up but reset successfully and stayed running properly.
I am suspecting the transducer (Airmar Smart Tri Multisensor 20-633-01 fitted as original equipment by Hallberg Rassy in 2010) because:
1. Powering the Furuno F1-50 display (also fitted as original equipment in 2010) off and on has no effect whereas powering transducer off and on usually restores full operation
2. Other data sources can be selected on the F1-50 and these display correctly - making me suspect data source rather than display
3. Water Temperature function has just generated a line of dots on the display for several years - probably indicating some sort of issue on transducer (albeit on a function I do not use)
A fact which may be relevant,or not, is that I run the display with a negative offset of -1.3m, to give depth under keel, rather than depth from transducer. I know, from using slightly shallow anchoring spots in oozy creeks, that when the keel kisses the mud there is a 0m reading. When the bulb sinks in a bit, and we are (to the system) in negative depth, the system always flicks over to read between 4 and 5m. The same as the reading it is periodically defaulting to and freezing on. Not sure how the two facts would be connected.
Does any of that ring diagnostic bells, based on your experience?
The Fi screens are very good bits of kit and essentially display what they see on the network. There is the option to add offsets and adjustments, etc so initially do a factory reset.
Have you any n2k devices on the network that’ll display “connected devices” so you can see if the DST sensor is registering itself on the network?
Else I can post you a test sensor that you could change and drop over the side of the boat if you like?
Showing my ignorance here: I’m not sure what an n2k device is!
I’ve got a furuno MFD 8 multi function display (plotter), Furuno NX 300 navtex, furuno GP32 and a Raymarine ST6002 SmartPilot controller on the system.
Are any of these capable of showing whether Transducer is visible to network?
