What is the best way to get the weather forecast (in English) in the Med (Western Med).
I believe that Navtex isnt too hot.
Apart from the internet and Satellite TV are there any other ways of getting forecasts whilst you are away from port - any up and coming technologies?
Is Navtex still the best option?

I always use www.windguru.cz and get subscription for the summer months - never really fgured any other way yet. Palma radio does regular VHF weather broadcasts in English on set times, but you would need to check what they are.

True, so far that with all the yachty masts its often difficult to pick up in a marina (which is where you need it most) however I find the forecasting to be one of the most accurate.
If you can get a WiFi link in the marinas then try

I had Navtex on my last boat and it worked fine on the Costa Blanca and in the Balearics. My Vodafone 3G card seems to work well in these areas so getting an internet forecast is not a problem either. For Spain I'm using the official Spanish AE Met service. Marinas are also pretty good at posting forecasts in their offices as well
This is not meant to be flippant but another good indicator is what the locals are doing. If they're out in their little peche promenades fishing or cruising, you can be sure that the weather is going to be OK. On the other hand, if you're the only boat leaving harbour that day, maybe best to wonder why!

Thanks everyone

The main reason for the question was that I havent yet spec'ed a Navtex receiver for the new boat. I am putting in a good WiFi receiver though and will probably integrate some sort of 3G service later. Once I've got an internet connection, I'm sure that there are several good sites that we can either get reports or make our own assesments from.

I was hoping that there is a new technology (or even existing) on the horizon that I didnt know about.
