We are flying to Spain in April to check out villas for purchase in the Costa resorts. Can anyone
comment with experience on good locations with the following obvious priorities :

1) Resort must have good marina for our boat
2) Good local amenities and ex pat community as we intend to stay during winter months
3) Good facilities with lots to do (when not on boat) such as golf course, good restuarants etc.
4) Attractive to holiday makers as we may well be letting the villa out during some summer months

The only Marinas I have read anything about are Denia & Estepona which I believe are on the Coast
Blanca. What about those on the Cost Del Sol ?

Any help would be appreciated. CGN

The harbour development at Benalmadena, nearest airport Malaga, looked good when we were there last year. Attractive apartment blocks actually built into the marina, quite well done, though no idea of prices etc.

Agreed Belamadena is very nice however I am told there is another marina that has been built further down from Fuengirola.

I have an apartment in Torreblance del Sol right on the paseo maritimo and I know what this is worth so a villa in this area is going to costa packet :-)

If you want any local help down there Clive I can assist as Mother is sunnning herself down their till May.

We just bought a place about a 2 miles from Porto cabopina just north of Marbella. Suggest you check it out IMHO excellent!

Obvious suggestion

Don't mean to state the obvious but I'd have thought the combination of Marbella / Puerto Banus would be the natural choice, has everything you want (but not the cheapest). Also try Sotogrande a little further towards Gibraltar.

Re: Obvious suggestion

Puerto Banus has gone downhill in recent years they now call it Puerto Anus the [censored] of the south!

Re: Obvious suggestion Stew

Thanks Stewart, as you will appreciate nothing is that obvious to me (maybe to others hence your caution)
until I have had time to look around, the areas you suggest will certainly be investigated. Thanks again

There is Ampuriabrava in the North which is an amazing canal/villa complex. The coastline is great (Salvador Dali country) Weve rented there some time ago for 3 years and towed a boat down. Great holiday place for kids too.
Very busy but lots of fun

Re:old git

Its not that we want to be surrounded by brits, except that if we are there out of season during
the winter months, then it might be nice to also see some fellow countrymen & women during
that quite period.
Our main reasons as the thread suggests, are for the weather, the boating in the med ,the people,
the wine, the sangria need I go further?
