OK - this has been done to death etc... but I've a sort of chance to take my boat (unsued) to the Med and moor up. Not in some fancy Leopard type place but on a rickety wooden pontoon in a local village. No shore power but a harbour watch of sorts. Most of the boats seem to be converted fishers or Rodman 800 class (nuffink wrong to all Rodman owners) - so "American Pie" is going to stand out a bit.

Options:
Forget it until short people are bigger.
Do it - need to fit a genny and maybe portable A/C.
Sell American Pie and buy something down there more suitable

Go left, YOUR OTHER left for pete's sake
(IMHO, BTW, FWIW and NWGOI)

Re: slight change

I think this a fab idea. Cost of hols with short people is massive, especially when school hols inmandatory and prices double plus there's the short people so hol becomes 4 times the price. Akl the time is spent in and out of cars. Then that get's too much so sit in same flippin hotel for two weeks.

Better option, imho, wd be to use dry berthing. You can definitely do it with your boat. Boat is out of water, covered up, behind locked gates, no bashing about, need a cover and a qucik call 24hrs in advance. Cheap hols for ever. No nasty cold uk weather. No nasty brokers. Costs 3-4 grand a year. Luton closer than chichester too.

I'll find a website

American Pie is 5 tonnes deadweight - but I will look into it - Thanks TCM.

Do you really want your boat to be 1000 miles away.
When it will be a major feat of organising this that and 1000 other things and 24 hours to get to it.
No just" lets go" on a crisp winter morning.
No crafty skive off day every now n then.

Good point, well made...

Of course the fact that I may get to sell half a share in the boat is tempting...

But a winters skive... hmmm can't really beat that.

Like you nip down every so often when you feel like just going on board to fiddle with stuff and enjoy just sitting there in the quiet of the evening.
now let me see the advantages of the Med.
hours spent on-line trying to get that non existant "cheap" flight
up at 4am for the 1-2 hour drive to the airport.
To arrive 2 hours before the alleged flight time.
drinking that crap coffee in dept lounge.
spending fortune on stuff you "might" need.
Relaxed pleasant flight with out anybody trying to flog booze/fags/scent/teddy bears(you wish)thats the crew you just prey that the other passengers do not start a fight.
land at airport
wait for hours at baggage claim
attempt to get basic car you ordered not expensive upgrade offered.
or why not drive
20 hours thru france/Spain etc etc
Ohh and best hope no howling hoolies in the wind dept and that the boat will actually go.

Re: Good point, well made...

I rekon that BarryD is really a woman in disguise. Not so long ago you were saying," oops er, gone and got SWMBO with child, err selling up as car journeys etc. Now You sold MV2 and come to your sences and bought MV3. Good move. But putting it down in the med! So thats less hassell than doen in chichester. So what you doin wiv the kids!!

Now if you ask me. Thats the way my other half thinks.....totally illogically!!!!!

Wha'dya mean "I'm always playing with this engine" its the only way to get it to run!

.........and you step out of the Aircraft and that stifeling Med heat blanket hits you like a migraine and you look for the green green grass of home but all you see is brown burnt earth and you have to say how wonderfull it is cause you've done it now and how you long for that temperate climate rain and wind and breathable air and those beautifull still summer evenings and everyuthing that is this our England (at this point all please stand and sing first two verses of National Anthem)

No not for me the Med. I like it here. There is plenty wrong, but I like living here and being 25 mins from our Boat.

I agree with the old git.

No it's not like that. You buy a load of cheap tickets at beginning of year, a massive load like 3 grand's worth at 30 quid each. Then treat em accordingly, if you feel like going, use the ticket, if not bin it. Airport is so close to your house Barry that you will leave home 1 hour 10mins b4 flight. always park in short stay. Always take just hand luggage, never rent a car (bus trip to car rental location, and massive Q at Nice, though easyjet better as you can walk to the car pick up) take taxi instead. So, all in, home to boat is 4hours. A bit longer than Chi, but not much. Not a prob for 3 day weekends. Own boat in 1/2 or 1/3rd shares (cos that's the max you will use it) and you will get better boating cheaper.

Weather fantastic when you get there. Drive 3 miles, anchor, swim.

Barry, I have an idea. Catch you later

Ok if you know the man you will be sharing the boat with.
proven long experience at taking care of boats perhaps.
Still a monster bill is no prob if divided between two people I suppose.
