Probably better off asking buttscuttle 'cos this is the sort of things those daft bugger raggies do. Furthest most of these MB'ers do is Poole to Cowes or if a really long trip Salcombe to Dartmouth or occasional X Channel. But not there and back in a day tho.

Though tcm's boat's in the med, most of his trips are not much more than 200 metres to just outside the harbour for a swim and a pose. Certainly will be this year. Loadsaposing. Ooh good name for the boat eh?

Nay, try the dopey raggies, they'll know. Some smart arse there will probably give you the lat\long of all the waypoints to get you there too.

Re: Med mileage Kim

Delivery trip, large Trader (therefore quickest possible), possibly with range to cross Biscay
currently checking that out.

Re: ignore them, dear cneighbour, info herein

You are underestimating. It doesn't depend "a bit" on range - range is massively important. The other megaimportant thing is the weather. I di the trip from gib into the med on a big fairline yonks ago, but not from uk. nonetheless...

Lets assume you have decent range at the slow speed gives say almost 500nm range, so work with hops of say max 70% of that.

From southampton to palma takes week with night-day running or a fortnight more gently o wether hassles . Stop at cameret, mebbe via st peter port for cheap fuel, then straight across biscay bout 350nm to la coruna, mebbe lisbon, gibraltar, anywhere sth coast spaain and then palma, total mileage just under 1800 miles so far. Go to palma via spanish coast so you have language and parts vaguely on your side.

From there to Greece, sort depends where in greece. 440 miles to sicily is a bit long so split the trip at 40 miles penalty into sardinia. past sicily takes another 130nm, syrcusa, then argotostli at edge of ionian is another 260. Total a touch over 3,000 miles - but hardly yet in Greece proper, nother 150nm to athens via CCanal frexample...

Good advice is to take papers/passports with photocopies with more photocopies at home where somone can fax things to you . Also need a fair lump of cash, in case the the credit card means "Nitzi" (no use) anywahere along the way. make sure insurance co knows. Spares of course, and more spares.

See, coliholic, eh? nipping outside the marina pah, we only did that to make sure colin got to see the nice places and didn't get wurrid at sea! Next time it's straight out and due south, 600miles range, split the juice, that'll learn'im. Balearic Rally Class 1 winner, me, yerknow.

Re: thanks dear TCM new I could depend on you

Thanks TCM new you'd be dependable being a vicar and all...... Biscay is biggest worry although I think
we'ed have the range for 350 non stop, the weather is oh so crucial there.
So whole trip 3000 plus bit more than I thought

Re: day trip for coliholic

Colihilc knows that it's wise to plan ahead. You can't be too careful. The right clothing, equipment, climate, having a good maintenance regime, and naturally, familarity with the route are vital. With all these place, and at the right time but ONLY at the right time, it'll probably be safe to get out of bed and have a shower....

Whipround for coliholic

Quite agree. Probly wears lifejacket in shower. Suggest forum whipround, buy him a place on Cape horn leg of BT Global challenge or something. Disguise in envelope marked "R Wissey" trip. That'll learn him. ;-)

Not only lifejacket but also full waterproofs, doesn't like all that spray stuff. Nice calm bath much better.

But at last he made it to his trusty craft. Wife on board, hands on the wheel, food packed, equipment all stowed. He wondered briefly -should he put in a vhf call? "Well" said his wife "let's back out of the drive and get to the boat first."

Re: Story needs telling!

Fairly straightford colholic story. Last year, around time of SBS, he was meant to meet me in Lymington on our boat. Matts turned up too. Just for tea and bics really. Anyway, no sign of col, 2 hours late. We call his mobile 100 times, just get "vodafone not responded, it may resp if you try later"

A bit later Col turns up. Turns out the night before he was trolleyed with beer and was walking along pontoon in Lym Yacht haven, in pitch darkness. It was a 8m finger pontoon, 13m boat. So he walked to the end of the boat, splash, Col submerged, mobile phone lost at bottom of sea.

No story really, business as usual...!
