there are many threads on 'good marinas' in the Med, but can anyone guide us to one(s) where we can obtain genuine materials, specifically 316 SS. I was thinking of Italy, but then was told that the SS we have obtained in Corfu comes from Italy, and thus I question whether they have 316 available in Italy or it's just that Corfu only imports 304??(not been able to answer that one unfortunately).
Of course we are looking at other item, Makralon being one which itself is causing a real headache to find.
The period would be from Sept – early 2006, and would require to have all the amenities of a marina, especially now we have the new addition to the family. (gotta keep her busy some how, as I can’t imagine she will be too handy with the grinder just yet!!).
We are steel, and am willing to pay for good quality parts and materials, but not get ripped off.
I was thinking of Spain or Italy, but any further advise and experience would be most welcome.

Go a little further south to Nidri on Levkada (Levkas). There, seek out Phil Thomas of Steelmarine on the right side of the road going south out of the town. He only uses top grades (dependant upon application) He made a gantry for us last year which matches the taffrail exactly.

Here is a picture of the man and his work Phil Thomas at work in Vlikho

I can also recommend "Stainless Phil" in Nidri,Levkas.
He made a good bimini and a one/off alternator bracket.
Ask at IGR Yacht services behind the Athos Hotel.

Hi George,
Could indeed do the mail order thing, but found that whilst marooned in Eritrea, we single-handedly rose Westmarine’s shares two fold, and found that very little of what we bought was actually used anyway!. Now I’d much rather see what i'm buying, it's cheaper!!.
Hopefully leave here around March/ April and head back May time, what about yourself?
