We have just moved our boat to the med and our current insurers GJW have increased our premium by 80% although we have had no claims. Can anyone recommend a different company,is this a common experience.Previous UK cover was for 12 months in the water in tidal waters whereas the requested med cover is for 6 months only in the water, the logic of the increase is lost on me!!

There have been many complaints about big rises this year. In general terms, you pay more in the Med the further East you go. When I renewed in December I paid £443 for the Med up to 32 deg East. I am with St Margarets.

I'm with Pantaenius. As yacht is currently wintering at Valence on the Rhone premium is the same as UK. Moving to the Med requires an additional £145/annum.
Pants say :-
Minimum premium for sailng med £480 based on vessels over 20 years age, therefore we offer all med waters as the cruising area. It would be no financial advantage if we restricted to european waters of med only. Any change in premium is calculated on a pro - rata basis thus only a portion of the add premium will be payable if the change is made mid way through the insurance year.
