In April 2014 I bought my current boat, a Ferretti 630, from San Lorenzo in Italy who had taken it in part exchange against a new SL72. I had intended to put a post on the forum about my truly excellent buying experience with San Lorenzo and this video was supposed to be part of that report but being an idle barsteward I never got around to it

For a shakedown cruise we decided to cruise from La Spezia, where we picked up the boat, to Genoa and back taking in the scenery of the Cinque Terre coastline and visiting the lovely towns of Portofino and Portovenere along the way. We invited along Mapism of this parish and his lovely wife for the ride and it was he that took the video footage and IMHO very professionally edited it

Anyway here's the video and apologies to Mapism for taking so long to post it on here

"Unfortunately, this video is not available in your country because it could contain music from SME, for which we could not agree on conditions of use with GEMA."

I'll try to watch it from GR in the next couple of days... Maybe it will work from there.

Many thanks - I really enjoyed that. Loved the colour fade trick at porto venere (one of my favourite harbours in the med) and I see they have gone a bit LED crazy on the buildings in Portofino:encouragement:
Mike, which harbour was at 2.19? Was that one of the cinque terres (the biggest of them)? I don't think it was (I don't recall any being that big) but would be grateful to know. Did you berth in there? It looked nice.
Boat looked great.
(PS video is fine on PC in London. I can't view Pan's Mallorca video, unfortunately)

Nice vid of a nice FB in April shows the boat off well in the sea.
Tend to miss out that region these days ,coast ( apart from Portofino :)) bit dull lacks bays /coves / peninsulars etc .
Never the less a bucket list cruise -has to be done , realise it was del trip
Interesting stuff IMHO starts S from @Elba
Problem is in the CdA ones spoilt if you use that area as a yardstick .

Mike

Thanks for posting! Your boat looks great and I particularly liked the "pedal to the metal" segment. Another fine product of the Carloforte film editing company...........:D

Thanks for taking the time mike, not able to see here but will look tomorrow when back in London.

Maybe a music rights type thing? I have some catching up to do on the various videos to get me in the boating mood!

Great stuff! Recognised a few places. Bonfire at Portofino; Italians have some strange customs :)
It was a St George's day celebration and they use St George's Cross flags as decoration. Initially I thought this was a special welcome for we visitors from England but I was soon disabused of that notion:)

We only spent a couple of months in the area before heading south but Portovenere quickly became our favourite destination. IIRC the harbour at 2.19 is Camogli and it isn't one of the Cinque Terre ports. Its actually between Portofino and Genoa. No we didn't berth there, just nosed in, and to be honest there didn't look to be anywhere for visitors to berth but I may be wrong

Actually you're right. Its the type of area you do once and don't go back. You can't berth in any of the Cinque Terre towns which are best visited from the land and there are no really sheltered anchorages between Genoa and Portovenere. When the wind is onshore its quite an inhospitable coastline. We spent 2 days in Elba on our way south and it is indeed a beautiful island; we wished we'd stayed longer

Thanks. Yes internet confirms Camogli. Looks like you can't just rock up and berth there a 20-25m boat
I agree re inhospitable lee-shore-ish coast. In between lovely Portofino and Porto Venere there are some long dull stretches. I've only done it once, starting Genoa and ending at Elba. On all my boat deliveries to Genoa I've just got the hell out and headed west. Elba is beautiful though - been there several times

Absolutely stunning scenery and boat. Thanks for posting. I'm already looking at larger Ferrettis :-) (God forbid...). We visited Helsinki center some weeks ago and we were moored next to a Russian 73 foot Ferretti of resent model, really nice machine also! It was a rainy weekend and frost during the night but the heaters managed very well to keep us warm inside the boat. Luckily the weather got warmer and sunnier now but with proper heating and a well insulated boat a little rain is just cosy. At 5.06 you must be doing way over 30 knots. What engines does your Ferretti have? I got 31.7 knots on GPS in flat calm with half tanks last week.

Much to my surprise she was pulling 34kts which is not bad for a fat Italian girl weighing 40t. She has 2 x MAN V12 diesels at 1200hp each. Its very tempting to look at larger Ferrettis because the larger they get the better value they seem to be;)
