First of all thanks to everyone who replied/sent PM's with suggestions and advise for our little trip, my first med trip was a great introduction into what I hope at some point will become a more regular event
Having given up on a UK holiday as the weather was looking a little suspect, last Wednesday I asked my better half to get something booked for our week off work.
So less than 24 hours later we landed at Palma International Airport to glorious sunshine and temperatures in the 30's!
The holiday wasn't anything to flash, but was a week in a reasonable hotel in Alcudia, after a couple of evenings wondering round the marina dreaming a little while looking at the likes of:
and
Before to long we came across a sign advertising small boat hire, a short phone call later and we'd arranged to have a boat for the day and agreed to pop down to the office to sort paperwork out. Pedro at Multimar could not have been more helpful, we were particularly grateful that he checked the forecast to see which day of our holiday was going to be the best, this meant as we left Alcudia marina on Monday morning we were treated to this
and of course the wakeshot!
Given conditions were (and I hope I've got this about right!) flatter than a flat thing in flatland I decided that cruising at about 30knts was a good plan
The rough plan we had come up with was to head up to the north coast to check out a few little coves and some of the scenery, all was pretty impressive and certainly made me feel very small!
A few random scenery pictures:
We reached a point where there was a big rock/small island, having stayed offshore of it we noticed another boat heading between the land and Island, being a little intrigued we followed round to see where they were going, which ended up with me gingerly following them through, off course there was no issue with depth which the chart confirmed.. but even so I went through very slowly keeping a close eye on the bottom!
We then headed on to what I think was Cala St Vincent, here Carol had a play in the ringo and I had a swim while making sure I avoided the lone jelly fish!
after an hour or so of enjoying the sun we decided to head off as we planned to head round to Pollenca following the recommendations from my previous post!
on the way we could see some boats coming out of what seemed like the cliff so popped in to find this little spot we missed on the way past!
while this looked lovely we decided to press on round the headland. A few more pics of the trip, which was very relaxed, although we'd slowed down to ~20knts as there were a few waves compared to first thing in the morning.
As we came round the coast we found a couple of coves next to each other, we could see that the eastern cove had a large tourist boat
so we headed for the western side for a spot of lunch. Quietly we nosed our way in, there were a fair number of boats already there, but we found a decent spot and dropped the hook.
Being a small light boat, and with a bit of a breeze we seemed to get blown in all sorts of directions, but once we were happy that we were holding we settled down to a little picnic and started to survey our surroundings.
I have to say it was superb, the water was crystal clear and being anchored next to a lovely princess V39 (rather like the one we were going to buy) was great, even if I did start thinking about what ifs..
After lots of relaxing and swimming we decided to carry on towards Pollenca before we had to head for home, sadly the wind had picked up a bit by now so in our little boat we got somewhat bounced around, we wondered round Formentor which as JFM rightly said is now full of mooring buoy's, as it was a little lumpy for us we just went in for a general nose around and then headed back out.
With time ticking away and sea conditions worse than the morning we started to head back towards Alcudia, as we got back with time to spare we picked up a buoy just off Alcudia beach for half an hour and once again enjoyed the sun and a good book
sadly all good things must come to an end, sorry if I've bored you.. not much more I promise!! we returned to the fuel berth where we were met, having been worried about the fuel range it turned out I had no need for concern, think it was only about 1/3rd of a tank and just over €40 in Petrol so all in all we had a very enjoyable day on the water for less than £250.
Think next year we may try and charter something a bit bigger for a week
