Port Adriano in majorca? I guess they're probably short of 10m moorings too, it's a popular size.
That could mean they have lots of 10m berths! IMO, it's rare that a marina has supply for particular berth sizes that perfectly matches demand, so you find that some marinas might have constant <10m availably but never any >20m availability and vice versa.Port Adriano in majorca? Alcudia is nice - I like to think of it like Blackpool in the sun but maybe I'm being unfair. Marina is nice - a "kind of" lagoon around the town beach - the big marina hotel has a pool but I'm not sure how/if you can use it - other than for drinks etc. Good base for trips to Menorca and some nice local anchorages. We have spent a few weeks there in the past - I much prefer it to Pollensa but there is a pool in the Polensa marina. There’s quite a waiting list for Portals for this size of boat so I’d thought about Alcudia to start. Similar thing on the cote d’azur, but places just across the border - like Aregai outside Sanremo - has plenty of space.
I hadn’t considered mainland Spain much as I don’t really know it. £8.5k sounds similar to Mallorca prices - but I appreciate Alicante might be just as nice.
Just checked our marina bill and it was £7700 for the year (including unlimited electricity, water, lighthouse duty, IVA and use of the pool.Alcudia is nice - I like to think of it like Blackpool in the sun but maybe I'm being unfair. However for your case, I think you would need marinas close to Palma. If you really are minimising your time on the boat, you won't want to spend half a day hiring a car and driving across Mallorca. Taxis should be your thinking. The journey from Palma to Alcudia is a dual carriageway but will take at least an hour. Likewise Cala d' Or is (I think) about an hour from the airport.
I think Pete's price for keeping a boat on the mainland Spain is a bit excessive. I'm sure he must be including extras that you won't find elsewhere. For example a privately rented berth in Sant Carles would be a lot cheaper (including electricity and water etc) - under £3.5K for a 10m/12m berth - £5K ish for a 15m berth. However, I think his estimate for a berth on Mallorca is a bit light.
We have always worked on the basis of keeping the boat on mainland Spain and crossing over whenever we feel like it. 100 miles or so from Sant Carles to Ibiza or Mallorca - a bit further to Menorca. The cost of the fuel is WAY less than the berthing/maintenance costs in the islands. This probably doesn't work for your overall plan but with good weather, you can be cruising any of the three Balearic Islands - even if you just "marina hop" - lots of people do.
Aregai (I know it well) is basically a car park for boats, there is nothing around, the small city of Riva Ligure is not really much. Portosole in Sanremo is way better but more expensive.Aregai outside Sanremo - has plenty of space.
Thanks. I’ve actually never been to Aregai - just saw the plenty of cheap available berths and it’s only an hour from NCE - but Sanremo is nice. Albeit when I’ve been before I’d never considered it from a boating perspective. I have spent a lot of time in Liguria on the east side of Genoa where summers are always amazing, so I’m surprised you’ve had such poor weather experiences on the western side.Aregai (I know it well) is basically a car park for boats, there is nothing around, the small city of Riva Ligure is not really much. But the problem with Sanremo / Aregai is IMO the weather, you have June to September (4 months) where the "condition" are right - that is no fallout from the Mistral winds (we had 3mt waves just 2 days ago), no windy as hell after 2-3 pm, often June is rainy or plain cold etc. Also there is not much around beside anchoring outside Portosole (Treponti / Bussano) or going to the Giunchetto (Ospedaletti) for a swim. Plage Mala (Monaco) is 19 miles. No islands for sheltering or such.
We used to live there and had a Primatist 41, the rule was "as soon as the conditions are right we go". Basically if you are there for 4 months then you can pick the good days and you will get maybe 10-20 days a year of "yachting experience".
This is one of the reason we moved to Greece (Ionian Islands, Lefkada) - we had 1 single day with 1mt waves all summer long and this was because the Lefkada bridge was in repair and we had to "go around". Otherwise you have tons of islands / fjords etc to pick (and an almost constant westerly wind in the afternoon) so you can boat every day no matter the forecast, you are always sheltered by Lefkada / Kefalonia / Zante etc.
The point of all this - if you are going to offer a share pick a place where you have a much wider window of use, from the UK you have to take a plane anyway.
