MD32A,Injectors cleaned and tested,Lift pump refurbished,Compression checked,Fuel lines cleaned and system bled,Turn key and it spins round but will not fire.Injection pump appeared to be ok (it was pumping but i didnt check the pressure) any more ideas of what to look at?

Thanks troops

Blimey Tug!
You don,t seem to be having much luck.
Why have you fettled the port eng?

Ok, daft question it may seem ---- but--
Was it running before you did all the work?

Crossing Lyme bay(which i would prefer to forget) we hit a really nasty storm, about 3 quarters of the way across the port engine started blowing black smoke and leaving carbon on the water. We managed to make Dartmouth arriving around midnight just as the port engine gave-up,we continued our trip on one engine until the weather finally beat us(but thats another story). The black smoke indicated to me that it was un-burt fuel or i had popped a piston or two so i decided to leave it until i got time to start the investigation. So here i am--investigating. I did not remove the injection pump whilst trying to find the cause, just the things ive mentioned.i know they are old lumps but i still think theres a bit of life in the port engine yet.Im looking to re-engine the boat as soon as i can but having just been made redundant it wont be for a while so im going to try and get the old bugger running again.

Ive checked the system and it seems to be clean,i did get a tiny amount of crud out of the injector lines but it was almost nothing, the filters were fine.

Back to basics at the mo.
I know it may sound daft.
But have you cracked the injectors whilst spinning her over?

yep and they seem ok,but as i said i dont know what pressure the pump is giving,i would like to remove the pump and have a look but i havnt got the gear to re-set the thing when i come to put it back.

If you doubt the pump.
Whizz it off.
Check the timing settings if you do.

Take to local pump fella.

Re fit.
Taking care it goes back into the same 'slot'.

Pump should work even if the 'timing' is slightly out though.
But not efficiently.

Total pump failure is unusual though.
Might give poor or erratic perfomance but a no go total, hmm dunno?

Deffo no air in the system?

Cos from your first post, if all as should be you would think it would fire at least.
Summat simple is bugging the eng imho!

Hate the stuff but try that easy start crap!
Just to see if there is 'life' maybe?

[Summat simple is bugging the eng imho!

Thats what i think,But i just dont know what.Maybe theres somebody who has had some time with these that may know of summat that would cause it,as you say,it should start or at least try to

Another point - have you checked that the water injection elbow is clear? This happened to me a few years ago, quite quickly - a new elbow produced full power. But I did have to fully remove the elbow to check properly.

You got crud out of the injector lines- then your injectors are knackered- take 'em out and send for overhaul.

if you have got muck that you can see with the naked eye in the injector lines, you have to go right the way back through the lot, you may score the injector pump, the injector pump relies on clean fuel for lubrication, furthermore, you have without doubt got a filter issues, the filters should have blocked and stopped the engine running before they let crud through

no never thought about that one

lines cleaned and filters renewed

Im begining to think it is an injection pump issue,I would take it off and get it sorted just to make sure but i dont have the gear to set it up properly when it comes back,so before i take the plunge i want to make sure theres nothing else left to try

i will be looking at the water elbow this weekend
