I understand that fuel at cost at Premier Marinas includes the running costs of the fuel pontoon and staff wages to run it etc - so this seems brilliant
Which is funny since the MDL cost always seems to be a bit higher than Premier. Plus, all MDL marinas rise and fall (rise generally) at the same time, regardless of whether there actually has been a higher cost delivery or not.
I personally hope Premier take no notice of MDL at all and keep running their marina's in the excellent way they currently are doing.
Yep, received my berth renewal package from them today. In fact the pre-VAT cost of berthing has gone up by 5% from this year, so by paying early to get the 5% discount the pre-VAT price is actually just a touch less. With the lower VAT meaning £90 less for our spendthrift Govt the renewal is less than last year, which can't be bad.
The discount on boatyard fees is very welcome. Just booked mine and this change will save me £200 odd. Also fuel at the price MDL pay is good news too.

Ah, its that superior fuel Jez.. you can just feel the extra power output on MDL fuel.
Well, I was quite enthused by the 5pct discount; thats was before hearing they just but the costs up 5pct anyway ! Probably the costs of maintaining the fuel pumps!
Basically they are doing what any bog standard CRM review would have shown.. give the customers perceived value for something that doesnt actually cost you (the company)anything anyway.
Still, all helps.
Let not be hasty J, a little competition woudnt hurt, although I have to say Premier do seem to try hard to look after their berth holders.
I think both Premier and MDL could do better on the pontoons. You pay for the lenght of the boat but only get the length of the pontoon, which is considerably smaller. Currently I find it hard to get out of my slot as all the boats around me are too long for their berths. This means the fairway is not as wide as the designer envisaged. The length of my boat is only slightly shorter than the fairway width and with no bow thruster it make it difficult to get in and out.
To be fair Premier offer free boat movments but I like to tie her myself. ( the boat that is /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
Silly me, I forgot that every other Marina fill their pumps with utter crap while MDL only use the purest diesel in the land.
Premier could still do a bit better, Lymington still consistantly the cheapest place for Diesel and you dont even have to stay for a night.
And something tells me they arent doing it for free either. Never had a fuel problem form them, so clearly their diesel is not that bad.
Yes, the boatyard costs is the useful bit. A crane out/store/relaunch for strip and antifoul cost me the thick end of £500 this year, so that's a useful saving.
It would be nice to think that there will be 30 nights in 2009 when the weather is actually fit to leave our berth and visit another marina, of course...
I beg to differ, Northney has gone up by more or less 10% on last year. However if you pay before 15th Jan, and then take into account the reduction in VAT it has only gone up by around 2%. On the other hand you are now going to get 50% off boatyard services and fuel at cost.
Interesting... I'm at Northney. Just double checked the figures and my berthing has increased by precisely 4.955%. Maybe the price rise is defferent for other boat sizes? (We're 9.5m). With the 5% early payment discount my pre-VAT berthing is £10.88 less than last year.
Take last years figure and take off the VAT. Then take this years figure and take of the new rate of VAT. Therefore boths figures are MDL price before they added the VAT on. The increase is 10%. The price increse you actually pay only reduces to a lower 2% figure when you take into account the lower rate of VAT and 5% reduction for paying in advance. Dont get me wrong I am not complaining. The 50% off of boatyard services in not to be sniffed at.
Who's a twit then! Guess....... Just realised I was looking at the year before lasts renewal. Not last years. On that basis Yes Iam £119.99 better off if I pay it by 15th Jan.

I for one understand exactly what you mean. Although I can manage with the tight space, our latest problem is green slime on the pontoons which at this time of year are down right slippery.
Most of the pontoons have been jet washed but the further you get from the office, the more worn out and greener they become! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
This really annoys me at renewal time! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
