With help from a forum member I found the supplier of the MDL metered leads hoping to save a few bob, they have a website Here. I sent them an e-mail yesterday and got this reply today :-

"Many thanks for your interest in Metermaid. I am assuming you need a 16A unit and not a 32A?

On that basis the cost of a 16A 240V Metermaid with 1 metre of cable and an IP44 3 pin plug and socket fitted is £112.50 + VAT. With P+P to a UK mainland address and VAT, the total cost is £141.00. As you may know, you can have whatever cable length fitted to the Metermaid that you want - additional cabling costs an extra £1.00 + VAT per metre fitted. However, for any Metermaid fitted with more than 1 metre of cable P+P costs increase by £5.75 (inc.VAT) as the unit would have to be sent via a carrier instead of Royal Mail.

You will probably find that the cost of a Metermaid direct from MDL is slightly cheaper than from us – this is because they order in quantity and therefore the cost of P+P is diluted somewhat. However, I believe that, in general, MDL charges reflect our retail prices.

We hold some units in stock which are available for immediate dispatch and we accept payment by credit card if this is of any help to you. Hope this information is helpful and looking forward to hearing from you should you have any other queries or wish to go ahead with an order".

So they are more expensive than MDL @ £132 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Best not bothering trying to find a new one cheaper then, but I still have my hopes of finding a good secondhand one on the wanted forum /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The upside is that you can get a lead from them made to size, so if someone needs a 'tailored' longer lead and wants to get rid of a short one let me know /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Do you have to buy the metered lead from MDL?, at my
Marina run by ABP we hire them, and if we leave the
Marina for good we get our deposit back

Whoever you buy from mark it indelibly with your boat name or SSR. We had ours nicked from the hard at Cobbs before Christmas and despite having the serial number, no support from them in tracking it down.

Have you checked that one on e-bay /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Anyway thanks for the heads up Mike I will keep an eye on that auction /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

No, the deposit is £120 (refundable) and £4 per week rent according to their booklet. Better to buy if on annual I think /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh! and while I have the booklet out for completeness the Electricity is admin £9 per quarter, and 8p per unit + VAT. Anyone know how much it would cost to keep the aircon/reverse heat on at 7,000btu's per night?

Be aware that some marina's, ours included, insist on a calibration certificate with the serial number on. if you buy from a dubious source it may not be acceptable.
Being cynical I belive this is only to enable the Marina to benefit from a mark up on the sale!

Well to use my new 3kw Kipor Genny at 1ltr per hour ain't gonna be cheap, anyway they may moan with that rumbling on all night in MDL /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Yeah much better to supply your own lead, providing of
course that they will accept the readings from a lead
that they have'nt supplied. Given me an idea tho

It states you CAN supply your own lead and they as well as the MDL ones will be subject to a free annual safety and accuracy check /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif So no cheating /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Recon household type meters are readily available for about £20. Most marinas will accept these (after checking with a known load). Mine is hardwired into the boat, as I rarely use power elswhere, but many have them in waterproof enclosures. With a 100m reel of 2.5mm arctic type cable at well under fifty quid, and the plugs a couple of quid each, there are some real savings to be made....

8p per unit + VAT

Your leccy seems expensive as it's only 4.5p a Premier and no standing charge. And it's only £15 deposit for their lead with no rental /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I still have one from my time at Bray. When they were introduced they were wonderfully unreliable ( I paid about £6 for a seasons use )

Don`t know if its any use to you but can swop it for a standard lead if you wish

Brundall Bay Marina have just re called all metered leads in favour of new electric meters which take electric pre-payment cards. you just go to the office and buy your stash of either £5 or £10 cards.

I did'nt like that system, too expensive, had it at St Olaves
never seemed to stop having to buy cards, much prefer to
pay ABP's 6.8p unit charge

You back in yet?

Today I think.

Last bill I had was 8p + Vat per Kw

[/ QUOTE ]

You've been done. I have my last bill in my hand from when I was on the pontoon and it's 5.5p per unit. Unless it's gone up since January????

Well I too just so happen to have mine in hand and is dated from 28/10/2005 to 17/03/2006 and the leccy cost is 0.081 pence + Vat per unit.

Also happens to be the biggest leccy bill I've ever had from Premier. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
