disappearing free nights.
One apon at time OG had an old Princess 33 and stopped in an MDL marina every now and then.
Aquired some sort of magic card (1) which recorded yer visits and when a certain number of visits had accumulated, a "FREE" night was yours to enjoy.
Somewhere along the line when nearly able to claim my free night the card expired( or something) so lost the lot.
Never say die, got new card (2)and started again with my Broom Transocean once again nearly up to a "free" night,so decided to get my card stamped while coughing up for a night in Chatham MDL with my new to me Princess 35.
Sorry your card is void as you have changed your boat name......................... ...Bye Bye free night.Again.
Have now got another new card (3)and off we go again.
According to my wobbly memory over last few years about a dozen unrecorded visits to MDL are floating around in the ether and my two free visits are keeping them company :(

There are rumours that MDL might be taking over CRT/BW moorings nationwide so that'll be more opportunities to lose out on free nights :encouragement:

From the rules for the free nights

3) Cruising Club cards are personal to the boat and can only be used in conjunction with the vessel named on the card.

9) Cruising Club cards and Points have no expiry date but Points are lost if the Cruising Club scheme ends.

But this one confuses me :-

7) The free night entitlement cannot be accumulated.

MDL doublespeak

In respect of Rule 3, presumably if the boat is sold, the card can be included in the sale but if the new owner changes the boat name the card becomes invalid.

Rule 7 means that if the boat is eligible for a free night it has to be taken for the next stay; one cannot pay for a further six nights to accumulate two free nights.

Aha...its all my fault...
All previous x 3 boats were renamed immediately after purchase SARAH T, hence the long period resulting in cards eventually timing out.
However, regards my most recent purchase, No1 grandaughter was quite resolute that the name " Ballerina" was under no circumstances going to be changed, which then caused the loss of free nights.
Not sure £10.00 saved in cheap plastic relettering quite covers the cost of two nights moorings lost and really should have fibbed a bit about make of boat ? :)
On reflection should have knocked up a couple of temporary cardboard signs for display while in marina.

Could you just tell MDL that there was no name change, Sarah T was a famous ballerina?

the rest of the saga is as follows, after arranging the visit with the others, popped along to marina office to book moorings , was told no problem, please confirm by email a day or two before arrival....... which I did.

Arrive outside lockgate and call up lock office
"Hi we are the visitors from RCC as arranged and can we come into the lock ?"

Err hang on....then silence and much shuffling of paperwork noises over loudspeaker.
Give em their due they did sort some berths a bit sharpish and were most helpful during our short stay.:)
Excellent marina bar none.
