I am amazed that I have received a threat of legal action from MDL for a £60 electricity bill, less than 3 weeks after the date of the original bill. On top of this it was sent to my old address which I have repeatedly told MDL, and also sent whilst I was on holiday, which I also told them about.

I guess they are trying to drive away their biggest customers to cut down on paperwork!!

Too late

John Watson was online earlier, but he's gone now. Pity, he surely would have responded.

For sale, 1970 Triumph Spitfire-sold, 1947 Lambretta, 1922 Great grandmother, PM for details.

Re: MDL Legal Action - me too

Me too. A heavy letter after three weeks following 6 years of prompt payment. If they had looked out of the window it would have been apparent the boat was not there....

But I guess its all generated by computer.

Re: Or!

Perhaps he did see them and as gone to sack the person sending them out!
Or to clear his own desk?

I wonder if the company's cashflow situation is such that they need to be this heavy handed to chase up very slightly tardy-paying clients.

Or perhaps, they have found another innovative method to alienate customers?

Or perhaps they just don't care?

I am not a berth holder. Nor have I been, though I may be in the future, providing this sort of customer service is the exception rather than the rule.

To be fair to MDL Most of Mr Watson's responses to moans and whinges on here have been pretty fiar.

Dont worry John its not only you. I went on holiday for two weeks and in that time had a bill for my phone and had it cut off by the time I got back two weeks later.

I run a business and historically August is the worst month as people are on holidays so I dont bother to chase until September.

I think that's a grand plan.. and maybe a free berth for life for the person that made you think of it?.. *grin*

Thanks for the PM.. as I said lots of people moan about MDL, but to your credit you usually stand up in here and generally sort things out. (Except the price issue!)

Nick

I have complained about this heavy handed approach before - for example, being asked and personally escorted, like a convict, to the office to pay for my lift out 30 mins after re-launch even though I was in the middle of eating my lunch!!!

Sure it's much better PR-wise if I call you directly (no disrespect at all to your hardwork - I mean this most serously) I am just tired of being treated like a child!!!

Regards
Mark

Re: Customer Service

I berth my boat in Kilrush Creek Marina, Shannon Estuary. At my request at 6pm a Friday evening in July & with no advance notice they lifted out the boat, power washed the barnacles off the out-drive and relaunched me so I could head away for a weeks holiday and money wasn't even mentioned until I got a bill last week, so I can fully appreciate why Mark is so pissed off with MDL's heavy-handed approach. Why not try friendly service for a while John? Admittedly it might mean the hassle of more customers and their boats cluttering up your marina...

Although I didn't much like being an MDL berth holder, (in the days when I was one), I must say my treatment during a seven-ish day haul out at Saxon Wharf last year was exceptionally kind and easy going. They couldn't have been more helpful.

Perhaps I was aware of it more because I was dreading the "bailiff" approach of old.

I don't know much about MDL berth holding but I have a mooring at a large establishment in Lymington and I have to say that both the boat yard and the marina office are the nicest, friendliest and most helpful people you could wish to meet. Admitedly not cheap (what is cheap in boating terms?) but only this morning I called them up to see if they could lift out and hose off the bottom. It has now been done without me having to leave my office 75 miles away and although I was told the price (75 plus vat) there was not mention of how I needed to pay. I expect to recieve an invoice in the next week or so with 30 day credit terms.

To date I have only nice experiences of marinas - hopefully thats how it will stay.....
