Hello all,

Having another extended disaster getting the boat ready to launch at the end of the month. One of the forward engine broke on installation, unfortunately these are the anti-vibration type Part N0 850402 (only two mounts on the front and the back is supported by the saildrive). Volvo very kindly offer replacements at £174 per unit which to me seems utterly crazy! I am looking at replacment anti vibration mounts of a similar size as no one seems to do a direct replacement.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and found a more cost effective replacement?
Would it be safe to spec a similar M12 anti vibration mount or is there some secret sauce to the marine stuff?

Any an all suggestions welcome!

If its any help to you, years ago I replaced the front engine mounts on a saildrive MD5, which a quick check looks to be the same as the MD7. I used Ford Escort mk2 round engine mounts. You need the round ones, not the oblong ones. They are fitted to the crossflow engine. They worked perfectly, and they are readily available for approximately £10 each. Yes, that's correct £10 for one. There are different sizes available, I think yours are 40mm thickness, but measure to confirm.

Hi Mercury,

MIne are areound 55mm thick / tall. They are waisted, 60mm at the ends and 48mm in the middle and are male - female M12 mountings. I did have a look at the MK2 mounts and they seem to be M10 male / male and 50mm thick.
I have called around a few companies that make bobbin anti vibration mounts and the all ask for the rubber hardness which I dont know. This looks like its going to be a nightmare or an expensive phonecall to Volvo Penta!

Hi have just changed my Volvo D1-30 mounts from the expensive Volvo ones to ones supplied by R and D Marine who after discussion suggested the right ones for the weight/distribution etc. Have a chat with them, about £35 each! Even if they only last ten years so much cheaper....
