Hi Folks,
My boat is a fairly recent aquisition and the engine is an old Volvo MD6A.
I am having great difficulty finding an oil filter to fit. I have carted the old one round various chandlers and marine workshops here in Switzerland, but nobody has a clue.
The problem appears to be that the filter I need screws via a threaded male part into a threaded hole in the engine block. Those I have spoken to here are adamant that the MD6A has the male part protruding from the engine
I was even told on one occasion that the engine had been modified, although my owners manual shows a photograph of the filter being removed from (an obvious ) hole in the block.
Does anyone know if the design of the MD6A was changed at some point, and more importantly, where I might find a filter to fit mine?

Yes your oil filter does have a male threaded part from the oil filter, the part number of this filter was 3875691. I can email you a picture if you want one, just PM me an email address.

However.... This filter is nolonger produced by Volvo Penta, you need the following kit to up-spec your MD6 to the later oil filter type.

All prices listed, current UK rrp Vat.

1x 834337, oil filter £10.21
1x 840616, adapter £43.94
1x 840617, hollow screw £24.29
1x 960175, oring £1.82

This then allows your engine to use the 834337 oil filter in the future, rrp £10.21

Happy boating...........

Hi , I run an MD6A, you can still buy the old filters from the Albin Vega club price about £10. Contact Steve Birch, he is your man for spares (very efficient) I have now installed a conversion on mine so that I can use standard car type filters cost for filters is £4 each. The conversion kit cost me £10, all it is is a flat round disk with a female thread on one side and male thread on the other side. any good workshop will make one up for you for less than £20. Hope this helps.
