I dont know the engine ... but looking at the workshop manual and the exploded parts diagrams I could not figure out how you could have water leaking from the joint between engine and sail drive... oil may be but not water.

I noticed the water pump was above there so wondered if the seal in the pump was leaking. If it is I'd expect water to drip from a weep hole on the underside of the pump body from the space between the water and oil seals.

You could of course have a water leak from the cylinder head gasket. There are several water passages through the gasket. Not sure if the water would run to where you are seeing it or not.
If the engine has seriously overheated then a warped head is not beyond the realms of possibility but best not to go there until all the simple things have been eliminated!

I'd start by taking a good look at the water pump , and the water connections to it. Simple/cheap to fix things first!

Then if that's not the cause of the trouble look very carefully to find where the water is coming from.

In the elimination process suggested below I suggest you may also include : What colour is the water ? Is it coloured as the antifreeze or clear ? Does it taste fresh or salty?

thank you for your interest everyone,it could be the gasket on the timing gear casing.Would that make any sense, the waterpump seems ok,if it ever stops raining Ill go take another look. Its definitely sea water cooled but thats as definite as it gets.

You only get oil leaking from there I think, not water.

OK back to the boreing drawed,Ill strip down the water pump asap. Thanks again Jake

If its the pump seal it should not be difficult to confirm it as the water will come out through the little hole under the pump. ( close to the mounting flange)

After a run you should easily be able detect some wetness there if it is the pump seal.

If you do prove that it is the pump then also inspect the shaft and bearing for wear and replace the oil seal at the same time. Both seals are the same.

My MD11C has the same waterpump, I say the same, it's got 4 screws like the one in the labelled picture of the engine not 6 screws like the one they overhaul in the workshop manual.

A complete new pump and a spare impeller cost me about £110 inc pnp direct from the pump manufacturer 2 years ago. The name was on the coverplate. A doddle of a job to do if you can wedge your shoulders in the cockpit sole hatch and work upside down for 20 mins ;)
