Getting a bit long in the tooth now and the cooling system needs to be spot on to work properly, otherwise ok. I have two, one is good as gold and the other runs hot. Ok on the River but overheats when I try to open up onto the plane. Tried all the basics but now down to having the engine out for test/rebuild.

The (t)md40A was prone to the scaling of the exhaust water injection elbow and Volvo Penta did produce a service bulletin to this effect. It advise on drilling out the scale as it reduces the cooling flow and caused over heating above 2000RPM may well be worth checking out. Also known for inject sleeve leakage and this is usually visible around the injector. Generally I good engine with as can be expected from VP even if the are becoming long in the tooth they seem to have last well, with regular servicing of cause.
