Started to change to cam belt, failed at first attempt. How do you get the water pump pulley off, 1st step. Is there any way of "locking" the pulley to get the locating bolts off. Also best way of getting these bolts off, very very tight

Happy christmas

There was wee article in the April 2010 PBO on replacing this cam belt, although it did not go into great detail on removing the pump pulley.

I'd slacken the retaining bolts before taking the tension off the belt, as suggested in the article. Use the belt to old the pulley even. Tap the spanner to get them loose if necessary.

Then slacken the belt remove the bolts and the pulley. If the bolts are really tight a bit of Plus Gas or similar might help ... but keep it off the belt!

Stu will be along shortly I expect

Doesn't the pulley have some additional holes in it? You could maybe make up a simple tool to fit into these holes to hold the pulley while you undo the flange screws.
