Hi there once again,

I presently have the standard instrument panel installed with my volvo md2020. I'm realling interested in adding on at least water temperate gauge.

I read in a few posts back that apparently all is already installed with the engine and only the gauge is required. Is that correct ?

Previous posts seemed to indicate that if you bought a deluxe panel you would just need to plug out the old and plug in the new panel with no need to replace the trasmitters.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks & Regards
Tyrone

What you will find is that the cable is already installed as its part of the engine harness, but you will have to buy the temp sensor which fits up on the cyl head or thermostat housing I don't remember without looking, there should be a cable (brown and white I think) with a terminal in the area to give you a clue.

Can't answer your question directly but having had some weed up the water intake on my 2030 on Tuesday, I think yours is a good idea. I wonder if I can just add a generic meter. Does anyone know please?

Well actually the present sending unit (transmitter) has only one terminal but situated very close is an unused round end terminal.

As tillergirl asked below, would a generic instrument work find or would it have to be a volvo one ?

Thanks
Tyrone

Volvo use VDO gauges, maybe you can buy one unbadged, or maybe try a Faria instrument it shouldn't be too far out.

Just spoke to Volspec, the local agents here. The existing sensor is just a make/break swtich for the alarm so the sender needs replacing. The Volvo kit is £109.44 for new sender, gasket, instrument and bezel.
