Mine has split and its inrteresting because the hose looks very new yet the muffler looks original. Has anyone had one of these go, and if so, did you replace like for like (and from where ?), or install something else ?. Thanks as usual /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is a double conical shaped rubber thing called an Elastomuffler, or something similar, in the pipe rising up to the top of the swan neck? If so yes we had one split apart in a Berwick.

We replaced it with a straight length of hose. Initially as an emergency measure but we never did renew it. We did later fit a waterlock, as there was not one, immediately after the engine.

The Elastomuffler or Elastomuffle is still available if you want to repalce it but I suggest not to bother. Google will find it. Maybe available from Trafalgar yacht Services (When they reopen after hols on 3 Aug)

It is nothing to do with The MD11c as such, just what Westerly fitted AFAIK.

Yes thats the one. A pop, and the stern locker filled with exhaust gas, and the bilge with the cooling water. Did you notice any difference in noise or performance, and (related to my previous posts re overheating, you may remember), would the muffler have any effect upon engine cooling ?. Thanks for your help.

No we did not notice any increase in noise level without it . No it did not cause any cooling problems, or change in performance, I do not see why it should. We (or at least the owner) thought that without it there was an increased risk of water getting in to the engine via the exhaust hence the waterlock sometime later. Personally I doubt if the risk increased but the waterlock was a sensible addition anyway.

Think I might have just cracked my MD11c overheating problem, crap in the exhaust elbow.

We dont have a muffler, just one of the £92 waterlocks.
