In 2003 I bought a McMurdo fastfind PLB in the intervening years it has gone through 3 batteries. I find out when I perform the self test at the start of the season every other year. On return to McMurdo after a telephone conversation with their customer service department (very helpfull) it transpires that there was a known fault on the PCB which caused a small (micro volt) current draw reducing the battery life from 5 to 2 years. They have agreed to repair FOC and will fit a new battery at reduced cost. So pretty good service, I would have liked a free battery but you cant have everything. So if anyone out there has one of similar vintage or with similar problems get in touch with McMurdo.

Much obliged, I've got two of these and an ACR none of which I have yet checked this season.

I wouldn't want to find out they don't work, the hard way!!!!!!!!

I would call it cr*p service. They produce a faulty piece of safety equipment and then charge for repairing it. I would expect replacement and refund of postage.

Contrast with Seago and the way they sorted the lifejacket thing.
