New boat has this smart looking Navtex and aerial. No sign of an on button. No instruction manual. Have tried various combinations and no joy. Of course like most other things on the boat (slight exaggeration) it may be bgrd. Or maybe there's a cunning secret switch?
A download manual would be great, and a tip on how to wake it up would be great in the short term, as we are at anchor and the Blackberry may not be man enough for a big download. Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for that. I'd tried the site and no manuals for Nav6 are there, even though they are listed "Oops that page isn't available".
But we've got it working - it was an unexpected switch on the switch panel. It helped a lot to know there was no switch on the thing itself. It may now all be self explanatorybut if anyone has a manual that would be useful I suspect.

Try the ICS site - all manuals there......

There are quite a few filter settings, but if the unit is connected to your onboard electronics (GPS etc) then it will automatically select the nearest stations. You way want to look at the 4 presets where diferent message filters are available so that you do not constantly get nav warnings and shipping movements not relevant to your area.

I also use the repeater function where it can show all the nmea data and also act as a trip log recording position data every predefined period.

Allow plenty of time to read the manual - it actually is worth getting the unit set up correctly.

Colvic already gave you a link for the manual...

thanks

Big thanks to DipperToo. The ICS site did indeed have the manual and I have now downloaded it. Very helpful response.
I'm sure PVB meant well but as I said above, although listed, you cannot access any manuals for the nav6 from the McMurdo site. Why mcmurdo doesn't point you to ICS heaven knows. I didn't realise ICS was a separate company, just thought it was the codename of this kit.

McMurdo manufactured the ICS Nav6 under licence.

Not sure about details, but allegedly something went astray in the relationship and McMurdo stopped manufacturing/selling this product and the rights I think reverted back to the original developers. McMurdo still have the warranty obligations for units sold by them which are via The Service Centre technical@theservicecentre.eu

ICS have a lot of documentation on their web site and there is also a lot of additional Navtex station info at http://www.icselectronics.co.uk/support/kb/navtex-db and also the broadcast time slots.

Another great reference site which also has better to view time slots is here http://weather.mailasail.com/Franks-Weather/European-And-Mediterranean-Navtex-Schedules

When it works it is great but you may well find that in some sheltered harbours reception is patchy at best.

BTW the link that Colvic987 gave http://www.polaris-as.dk/files/pdf/...er/user-manual/ics_nav6_range_user_manual.pdf is a direct link to a pdf file that does work and is for the McMurdo version of the manual which I think combines several of the ICS manuals into one.

I often wonder whether people actually read the replies they get! The link Colvic gave you earlier wasn't the McMurdo site - it was an immediate download of the Nav6 manual.

Apologies

Belatedly.
The link produced nothing on the Blackberry - now I'm back at base for a while and yes, Colvic's link works fine.
