Instead of water can I use red diesel as (consumable) ballast in my McGreggor 26 in order to cross Biscay?

presumably, though, the further I get the easier will be. I have sacrificed some weight as I'm carrying a filed down Rocna as anchor.

I was gong to mention that anchor type, size and location might also influence planing speed. Now I come to think of it, you might want to re-locate batteries as well. I expect flooded lead ones might have highest density for ballast. But others may argue that AGM or Gell are safer regarding spillage & venting.

You might be on to something here and we could just have one thread instead of many.

Bit of a water shortage in NW Spain. I'm afraid you'll have to fit a watermaker to the diesel outboard.
Of course the water will have to be inspected and EU approved. Especially if it has passed through a wee Still along the voyage. Prob worth more than diesel tho.
