Got this months edition through the door today.. flicked from cover to cover eating breakfast and its finally its dawned on me as it headed to the recycling bin, I have no interest in 99% of boats in it. So after so many years now cancelled my sub this morning.

Had subscribed to PBO some months back when there was a 50% sale offer, but got an email back after 2 weeks saying for system issues my request had not gone through, and would I try again. So I asked them to confirm that the offer price would be held and was told unfortunately no, that offer had ended... so.. as they say, So long and thanks for all the Fish..

I noticed that the first whizzy 'new look' magazine had 212 pages and the next one had 138 pages … at the same considerably increased price! I'm sure, if anyone at MBY bothers to read the forums, a perfectly good excuse will be forthcoming … probably along the lines of 'tough titty!'

Isn't the whole magazine concept dated since the internet?

I certainly continue to subscribe to both car and boat magazines. I spend all day sat at a computer, much prefer a magazine while relaxing of an evening or on the boat. If I found that 99% of the content was of no interest to me I'd probably stop though.

But interest isn't the same as relevance. I'll read a review of a new Lamborghini ahead of a review of a new VW Passat - one is of more interest, the other (sadly) of far more relevance...

no, absolutely not. love a magazine and love books. Never subscribed to anything to be delivered via ipad and never would.

Therefore quite annoyed that probably the best quality motor boat magazine published has nothing I am interested in. But no doubt speaks far more about me that it does MBY.

Taken up a sub for a motoring mag today in its place, the one you told me was crap... so I will see if you are indeed correct!

The RRAB one? Yes, full of errors.

The only one I get is the Automobile. That is worth it.

The online "MotorBoat Owner" has probably cleverly filled the hole vacated by the "aspirational" MBY which has now aspired off to a world populated by Russian oligarchs and lottery winners. ?

I still look forward to getting the copy in the post. The mag cannot please all people all of the time. Think this month they have a test on a windy 27 to a ferretti 670 so I would have thought that would be something for nearly everyone in that range.

Also enjoy reading about boats I am likely to never own - like the sunseeker 161. As well as other peoples travels, even if I am never likely to do the same journey.

Quite like the new format as well, though I wasnt bored of the old. Its only £5.50 a month which is only a pint.

indeed only a pint... but the day I walk into a pub, buy a pint and then pour it down the sink I will also stop drinking. :D

in fact you have summed it up nicely, windy/ferretti/sunseeker zero interest in all... I know its me.

Nah, there are still luddites out there like me who prefer consuming our news via the printed page. I am not averse to online media but I honestly prefer the convenience and pleasure of print

You know, I was just thinking the same thing on the last 2 issues (as I scanned the current issue in a few minutes and dropped it disappointedly on the floor).

I feel the mag is once again aiming for the Lottery Winners, which unfortunately I’m not.

MBY did get a kicking a while back from readers asking for a more diverse range of boats and a balance of new boats and practical topics covering maintenance etc.

I get the feeling they’ve swung back to the glossy, coffee table publication (hence the heavier paper etc), to a demographic which I no longer fit in to.

Ah well, perhaps a change to another publication / topic is overdue.

.....and besides - for getting guidance on maintenance / practical topics - you can’t beat this very forum (and a bit of PBO to supplement general boating skills / topics).
