With what looked like a young crew (or am I suffering from the policemen getting younger syndrome?). They seemed to spend most of their time at the Res Nova (the floating bar/retaurant).

What's the idea of this boat, does it serve a useful purpose or is it simply to keep the MBY staff a bit happy, maybe they don't know MBM have a bigger one!!

in jersey marina they,MBM, reserve half of the pontoon space, than only use a bit of it, while the rest of us raft 4 deep, happy motoring.

rich :-)) Why pay, when you can do it yourself?<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1>Edited by rich on Tue Jun 25 23:35:43 2002 (server time).</FONT></P>

Lonjohn - whole MBY team down in Dartmouth area from Thu 20 June to today (27), on annual MBY editorial cruise. All staff use the boat, in pairs and threes, over 10 days (editor Alan delivered Nova Lymington - Dartmouth 17-19 June). Purpose of cruise.... er... learn/improve boat skills, team building, bonding and generally messing about on the river. Stating in Res Nova - comfortable, v. helpful couple who run it and excellent food. Dep Ed Isitt and Able Seaman Snook brought boat back to Lymington from Exmouth today. Are you resident of Dartmouth? my first time, beautiful place, lucky you.

As Haydn has sed I'm based in Exmouth, in fact have just returned from thre boat - no sign of Tom, must have departed b4 I arrived!

I saw some of your crew on the Rez Nova on Saturday night, agree the food is good and the accomodation clean and pleasant. However the pint of Spitfire I had on Saturday evening was almost undrinkable, although true to form I left not a drop!!

Down next wednesday with proper crew John. Not sure whether it's right or left. But your welcome as always minus dogs!!

No one can force me to come here-----------

Re: Is that the little Nimbus Nova.....

Think it must be Pete. I thought it was a very smart boat that looked to be extremely well finished, but that's what I would expect from Nimbus.

Thanks Haydn, could well be on for that. What or who is your proper crew? Also are you mistaking me for the cat man, when have you seen me with a dog?! <G>

Dont worry John moans about the beer every where he goes but still drinks it all!

Dom

I just want my boat back in the water ;-(

We left just after 10am, having eaten our own weight in eggs and dead pig at the excellent Dockside Cafe. Guess you must have got there after we'd gone. Made it to Lymington by 4pm, after a leisurely lunch in Weymouth.

Little Nimbus really rather good. Got 39 knots out of it in Christchurch Bay, did Exmouth to Lymington on £30 of fuel, and lack of serious accommodation means we all have to stay in swanky hotels wherever we go (spookily, there are no four-star hotels in Exmouth...just hundreds of Mrs Smegma's B&Bs).

Very young crew? Lester dates back to the early Cretaceous period, but his I guess his posse of bitches are mostly in their 20s. And they want to know why you didn't introduce yourself/buy them all a drink?

Re: Spitfire

The spitfire at Res Nova didn't look the greatest, had to drink whisky instead...then the wine, which was good :-)

The Spitfire is from a Keg, not a cask, so it's just like any other dead lager in the taste department, don't really think they could get a cask ale to settle on a wobbly barge...un like the "Powder Monkey" in your neck of the woods which had a fine selection of real ales, and at a very fine price as well!

Recommend the Exmoor Gold (old favorite along with Blackawton Headstrong) but I also liked the Blackawton summer ale, I think it was Summer Gold...but all very cheap (£3.60 for a pint of Stella and a pint of Ale) unlike my regular (£3.05 for just the pint of stella)

London eh??

Didn't introduce myself as I am a miserable old git by myself and they were with what appeared to be their partners! Apart from that I was already half pi###d and probably couldn't string a sentence together by then.

You certainly found the best cafe in Exmouth, their bacon sarnies are the best around. Presume that you didn't stay in Exmouth there being almost no hotels at all, let alone 3 or 4 star!

Let me know if you're down this way again, praps we could get together to finish off a few more bottles of red plonk.

Re: Spitfire

Spitfire is normally excellent direct from the barrel, but under pressure - ugh!

Any Exmoor ale is good, brewed just up the road from where I live. When wrere you on the Rez Nova? Perfect position isn't it?

Partners??? The intra-office romances are evidently coming on better than we thought!

We'd be delighted to take you up on the offer next time we're running aground somewhere near Exmouth.

Scotch on the rocks

Or maybe the sand. You're not trying to tell us that you ran aground are you? <G> No one does that in the Exe!!

Re: MBM Fleet in Jersey, didn\'t

Might I correct the last post?

MBM didn't reserve half of the pontoon space. The Harbour Master made a choice and kept the space between F and G ready for us, and when we arrived, we only used half of that!

See the top left photo on: http://www.playdeau.com/fsmbmcruisesCI2002F.htm

This clearly shows we stacked and packed the fleet in, and that others then came and used space in front of us. We were some 20 boats in all, and we stacked some of them 6 abreast.

It was also Liberation Day, and everywhere was packed out. We did our best to use as little space as poss.
