Sorry if this has already been covered, but I think its a shame MBY didn't include some of the newer anchors in the test, like the Spade, Rocna etc.. The ones chosen have all been around a long time, and I had already formed a view (confirmed by the test) on which of those was best.

Not knocking the test, I think it was OK and fairly interesting, but a missed opportunity on the newer products.

Agree with that but I still thought the test very useful and it also confirmed my experience. I changed the anchor on my boat from a Bruce to a (larger) Delta following advice on this forum and internet research and the improvement in performance has been significant which tends to agree with the results of the MBY test. But as you say, I would certainly have been interested in the results of testing the Rocna as it was a toss up between the Rocna and the Delta for me

missed the test - which ones were included?

suspect the Spade wouldn't have been included in a mobo anchor test as it doesn't stow in a bow fitting - Sword however does but isn't well known.

Yes, exactly a missed opportunity I thought.

I would like to have seen my newly purchased ''flying anchor'' tested.
This jobbie to intended to prevent the massive swings with each change of wind/tide and double as an off beach anchor for the tender.
The test looked a bit Heath Robinson to me...

do you reckon someone found it lying around from 10 years ago when the fortress and Delta where 'leading edge'?

Did they at least have them all the same weight ('cept the fortress - maybe 60%)?

oh well better go and read it

We took the view that it was better to test five anchors really thoroughly rather than a less detailed look at 10 anchors. We chose the ones we did on account of their universal popularity and our own experience of the designs which we rated.
In retrospect perhaps we should have found space for the Spade since reports of its performance seem quite varied.

thanks for the comment Hugo - understand your logic.

with mobo's it's surely a bow fitting thing so equal weight examples around 10 or 15kg of -

bruce
delta
cqr
rocna
sword
bugglewagger (?)

would have covered off almost all of the 'huge' debate that goes on on these forums all the time

for sailing craft adding the danforth fortress and substituting the spade for sword would make sense.

anyhow you have room for a good sequel!
