Are these magazines aimed at different kinds of yachtsmen? Small Boat / Big Boat, Planing or Displacement?

Must admit I've never read Motor Boats Monthly.

MBM is a little lower range than MBY, though it's moved upmarket somewhat in recent years - probably following the trend for first timers to buy bigger, and as existing owners trade up

Agreed. I find MBM more relevant to my present and future boating needs - unlikely to ever own a boat bigger than about 28ft. That's why I have a subscription to MBM and only occasionally read MB&Y.

Can I suggest you give MBM a go. Obviously as MBM's editor I'm just a teensy bit biased but I think you'll find a few things that will interest you.

We tend to focus on motor boats between 20 and 45ft and pride ourselves on offering a good mix of practical advice, hard hitting new and used boat and product tests, real world cruising stories and the occasional unexpected feature on everything from shark fishing to the man who built his own superyacht.
