Would have thought, fixing a date for going to Silly Isles, in advance and pulling it off. A bit remote. Especialy If you have to leave the boat there.
Let us know how you get on anyway. Hope you make it.

First time we did it, not a problem. Second time (last year) we couldn't. We were in Falmouth and had to wait for poor Wx to pass, by which time we had to come back to the Solent.

This year? Well, the forecast doesn't look too encouraging, so those booked on the trip are being advised (today) to hang fire and wait for furthr instructions.

The Wx has to be really good for this trip to come off. There is no way we would want to leave boats in the Scillies. So an out and back must be feasible with the forecast.

So let's see what happens!

We've been to the Scillies twice with our own boat, Piers, the last time with MBM and its well worth doing. On both occasions we found the worst seas were off the Lizard but conditions actually smoothed out the further west we got so its worth perservering a bit. You can always abort into Penzance to fight another day anyway
You really need a nice lump of high pressure over the Western Approaches for this trip and it doesnt look like we'll get that for a while. Still, you can always park yourself up on the Helford River for a couple of days and do some pub crawling
If you get to the Scillies, can you let us have a report on the mooring buoys situation 'coz were planning to go out there again in July and I have heard they've laid down a whole load more visitors buoys in St Marys

No, we went in 1994, Piers. We used to do a MBM cruise every year but stopped because we didnt want to go back to the same places and now we're limited to school holidays anyway. We say hello to the team every boat show just to keep in touch

Piers, given the current run of weather, I'd forget about boating and concentrate on your golf swing. The only other destination you could consider from Falmouth in strong south westerlies would be the Helford River and, then, you would need to find a visitors buoy of which there are'nt many, rather than anchor. The Fal estuary is worth pottering about in to explore

New Destinations

Piers, this is a difficult question to answer because within the context of the present format of 20-25 boats within a maximum cruise period of 2 weeks, I dont think that there are any major destinations that MBM have'nt done except maybe a run up the East Coast. There are a limited number of harbours large enough to accomodate a big number of boats like that.
I suppose what I might be interested in would be something a bit more demanding, maybe involving a smaller number of more experienced boaters possibly visiting less popular harbours, maybe involving things that we would'nt normally do such as night sailing or anchoring overnight

Re: New Destinations

After many thips with MBM, there is one group which has started its own cruises. This year, one of their trips is to Brittany and just around the eastern tip. Is this the sort of trip that would interest you?

And if so, how long would you like the trip to be?

Re: New Destinations

Eastern tip of Brittany, eh? Now thats a place I have'nt been to - do you mean western? Yes, I would be interested but not for this year as we are W. Country bound. We are now somewhat constrained by short person so any trip for us has to be in school holidays + include a few bucket and spade type beaches
Interested to hear there's been a breakaway movement. Who are these people and why did it happen? Is it quite structured or a free for all?

Re: New Destinations

Oops - yes, western. The 'break away' group was started simply because a number of boaters wanted to go further afield and explore.

In July, they go to the wsetern part of Brittany, and maybe in August, quite deep into Holland.

Depending upon the success, there may or may not be further trips into the future.

Seeing the need for sand, what if we towed a dinghy with a play pit in it to keep tiny small happy?

By the way, all with MBM's blessing.
