Hello,

For this month's Pontoon Talk, MBM is asking 'Are environmentalists ruining boaters’ fun?'

We ask this in light of the impending Marine Conservation Zones and initiatives such as the no-anchoring zone at Studland Bay. Whatever your views, whether you support the lobbyists' attempts to protect the environment, or whether you think they are placing too many needless restrictions on boaters, please share them with us.

Pontoon Talk is a regular feature, which aims to give boaters a voice and allow you to share your views and experiences. If you'd like to get involved please PM me and we'll take it from there.

Many thanks

I'm not really happy with the question, which is phrased in a very odd way: most owners motivation to participate goes rather deeper than "fun".

How about:

"Are unelected environmental lobbyists with an agenda attempting to restrict the rights of motorboaters to navigate and anchor freely".

"Are you still beating your wife, eh? :D

But I agree that the question 'Are environmentalists ruining boaters’ fun?'
is just as loaded.......

OK, admittedly the question may sound loaded, which is unintentional.

How about: Do you believe the actions of environmental lobbyists are restricting the rights of motorboaters, or do you support their attempts to protect the UK's waters for us all?

All views are welcome.

That's two questions that are not mutually exclusive and you ought to ask them separately, if at all. It's possible to say 'yes' to both so the 'or' is not appropriate.

You're quite right albineer, while some people may feel strongly one way or another, it is possible to say 'yes' to both questions. This is a complex issue and we welcome all thoughts on the subject.

If this is a subject you care about and you wish to divulge your views and expand on them then please PM me.

Thanks jhr!

Well, I'd welcome some more info as to quite what the proposals are, or even better, what might actually be implemented.
Given that, the question ought to be
Do you believe the actions of environmental lobbyists will restrict the rights of motorboaters, or do you support their attempts to protect the UK's waters for us all?
Other than a small anchoring restriction off Studland, are there any other current restrictions?

This Pontoon Talk was following up news stories we ran, firstly on Marine Conservation Zones and then on Studland Bay. The responses were published in our October issue.

Steve I will PM you about your concerns.

Thanks
Sally
