Opposite the Eds intro page there's a lovely pic of people having fun in a small dory.

But what is this?

1) Cox not wearing an lj
2) 2 young lads up in the bow clinging on for dear life
3) Mooring line visible past the bow so he's tearing close past a boat at anchor

No wonder people have take a dim view of sports boats

Real world fun. Good for them. If you can't do your own risk assessment for yourself, sell your boat.

I have to say that MBM is rather a boring read! It lacks sole or personality, I will not be renewing my subscription once it runs out. It has become just a catalogue and the online version is not even worth opening. The picture referred to is just a joke, an accident waiting to happen. Carl, you should be ashamed of your self. Not the image that should be promoted at all!

Lens foreshortening the distance to moored boats is a distinct possibility.

Anyway, it seems you have to be serious to boat now. To me it just looked like kids having fun. You might as well bring on licensing and speed cameras.

It was more the MBM support of the wear your lifejacket at all times, wear your kill cord etc etc approach then putting in a pic that could be construed as ignoring all of their own advice. And I know you can't see if the kill cord is attached or not, I'm just making a point.

Yes it's nice to see people having fun, that's what sports boats are for. But a more prudent pic could have been chosen I'm sure.

If I had to come off the fence I'd say I'm inclined to side with you.

My main concern of the mag was where it said 'September' on the cover. Another summer almost over with p1ss all boating done . . .

Ok Ok, I hold my hands up, as Art Ed its my job to find a nice pic every month. I just loved the sheer enjoyment on the faces of the children, most of us probably had a similar experience at some stage in our life to make us the boating enthusiasts that we are today. Yes its not ideal because of the safety aspect and I knew I would probably have to write this reply, and I apologise if any of you have been offended. In my defence its not the easiest thing in the world to find a picture each month that would make people want to get out on the water. So if any of you would like to send me an image for our welcome page which you think would encourage people to go boating my email box is always open.

And yes, if used, you could even earn a bob or two
P.S. Of course when I say "always open" I would prefer you to be selective rather than sending your entire collection

if they've been offended they must spend most of their life being so. ignore the naysayers I say. Crikey, with such and honest pic, you never know it might be catching, the mag might even tell us when a product is ****e, rather than fudging the issue. Hang on.......

As the op I never said I was offended, I just commented on the fact it seemed to go against some of the safety campaigns endorsed by the mag. I'm all in favour of people having fun and anyone that knows me knows that I am dead against being legislated to. Each skipper should be free to make their own considered choices. That's the way I grew up and that is the way my kids have grown up. Making free choices, but based on being given a background where sensible choices can be made, not by being wrapped in cotton wool.
