MB&Y News article on red diesel price has me completely confused

This seems to suggest that duty is going up by 35p/litre????

I thought that the duty increase was more like 3p/litre?

Is this right that there is a specific duty increase for marine fuel??????

Agreed something wrong but I can't see the error in the calculation. Their maths puts red about the same price as a garage forecourt but 40% of it should be reduced duty

Isn't it the 70ppl thats wrong
They say that it includes 10.8ppl duty already paid - that means that the current base price is 59.2ppl - I'm prety sure that the base price of fuel in Guernsey (for example) is far less than that.

Still, its a very confusing example from people who should know better.
On this forum, we generally have our "fingers on the button" so to speak - if we cant work it out what hope have those who dont keep up have. They are the sort of people who rely on the "experts" at places like the RYA and BMF.

Final price is high because of the 70p per litre assumed price is high.

Yes, but even if the base price is high, there is a line that states:

'Additional duty payable = 35.5p' - well tyhis intimates that there is additional duty of that amount due in September.

Surely they should be highlighting the correct additional duty if this isnt the case.

Its just bad maths, or journalism, or both!!!
