I was reading the 47HT boat test in MB&Y last night, and thought it was a good test. But for the life of me I don't understand the outcome!?!?!

All the boats are well out of my reach, I could only dream of them, they all look great!
But are MB&Y now deciding the outcome of boat tests on the writers presonal own preference and not what actually is a great boat???

I just can't figure it out, the Absolute is just as well built as the others (they admit that), its the fastest, the most economical to run, the biggest saloon, the quietest by a long margin and the cheapest by up to £140,000.00, what am I missing cause the one that wins is the slowest, the most thirsty of the IPS boats and £60,000 dearer. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Is it purely cause the Sessa has a slightly bigger aft cabin than the already great Absolute one?? Then thats silly!!!

Well I know where my money would go!! Give me the same money that you would to give Fairline for their Targa 47 and I could buy a brand new Absolute 47 fully spec'd.....AND....the keys to a brand new Aston Martan V8 Vantage.......AND.....a cheque for £50,000.00 to run both the Absolute and the Aston for free for a year or two. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know i'm biased!!! Infact I'm not, I don't own one nor have i anything what so ever to do with Absoulte, but the way i read it last night, The Absolute 47 seem to get the best write up of all the boats! Can anyone tell me why it didn't win??

Cheers

I would agree with a lot of what you are saying but if the Absolute 47 had been availailable when I last changed my boat I would be so frustrated. It ticks nearly all the right boxes for me bar a couple of fundamentals 1) I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) the only option is two double beds, how does that work if like me you have a teenage boy and girl? they are quite happy to share a cabin but I wouldn't ask them to share a bed. The Sessa forward cabin with it's scissor action beds looks a great! solution. 2) I don't think I would ever get fed, for a 47 ft boat the galley is pretty naff! no work surfaces and if the drawers are as deep as the rest of the boats in their range they are pretty pointless. Address these minor but crucial issues and it would probably be my next boat.

Alistair, your bias towards absolute is obvious so I don't think you can give an unbiased opinion. They are average at best.

Face it - the best boat won /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think MBY are really in love with the Sessa they've been praising her to death since its inception....
still the competition is huge, the Sessa looks great from outside may be the best looking out of the group and it does go well
still with the price difference the Abs is the best tempter and even if it does not tick all your boxes you can finish buying one easily IMO
I also agree with wat Lambada says especially about his no.1 point, to be honest I would prefare a 3 cabin boat then a huge owners cabin mid-ship but then that's just me

Ah yes, that could be a problem if you have 2 teenagers.

I think Absolute are due to launch a new 41HT and I'm pretty sure that will have twin beds in the aft cabin. And if thats not big enough the 52 has twins in its 3rd cabin.

Cheers

now this looks a full on Promotion /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif lol if you continue like this Abs are gonna give you a free one you know....

Sorry, certainly not meant as promotional. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I have completely no connection with Absolute, and don't expect them to give me one for free for any advertising, although all my dreams would've come true if they did!!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

no escuses Alistair I was just joking....

what where the boats tested in this report...
have heard it was Sessa C46, Absolute 47 HT, Fairline 44 Targa GT

I think one of the best boat in this class have not been tested, which is the Bruno Abbate 46 G Primatist Aerotop Pininfarina, Love this boat and that extra convertible 3rd cabin makes her a winner in its class review and video

Ermmm....
That's the common sense, very understandable reason why not.
I'm afraid that the real world, sad but true version is:
not much point for the magazine, since there's no dealer paying them to publish the review...

He who has the biggest advertising spend wins?

Not much point since without any dealer here it would be hard for someone in the UK (which is the main circulationmof the mag) to actually buy one

[/ QUOTE ]

but I think thats the main problem...
a Mag should be open that is why you pay them to show what you would not know yourself going to Southampton or London

the Sessa C 46 won and I think the Sunseeker 47 Portofino was the wildcard as it is with shaft drives, still a lovely boat and looks as good as the Sessa IMO

Sorry but it was the Targa 47HT not 44. Very different boat.

I looked at Sessa and Absolute at Southampton. Did not like anything about the Sessas' on show but I don't think they had the 46 there as it was coming later or launching elsewhere. I decided that I wouldn't bother to look at Sessa again, just not for me, bit like Beneteaus. All the Absolutes' were far superior.

The winner for me though was the Fairline Targa 47HT, bloody expensive mind, but it did have a much better cockpit layout for UK use and the galley far more useable. The Absolutes had the most spaceous cabins and similar high level of finish. They are both very good looking boats too. imho of course.

Fa Fa... nearly replied there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thread Drift !!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

PS. Deal done last week.

If the deal's done why the secrecy? My guess is you've bought Son Vida's Fairline, and you're waiting for him to announce his new boat, or you've bought a raggie and you're too ashamed to admit it.

Am I close?
