All these years I thought 1 atmosphere was equal to 1000 millibars.

Today I had to convert a barometer reading from inches to millibars, and in looking for a conversion table found I was wrong - you learn something every day around here.

however, I did come across this natty conversion tool which others may find useful.

Have you ever just tried typing the words as shown below into the search box in google.. Same for most conversions e.g. currency. I'll look at the noaa site later :)


29.5 inches mercury in millibars

10 usd in pounds
 
When I used to dive, I was taught that one bar was "about" one atmosphere. 13mb is utterly insignificant for diving purposes.
