With all the 'yachts are too expensive' and 'we need a dinghy show with the odd MAB thrown in' comments I thought I'd say it's worth looking at the polish build Maxus 26.

No uk dealer yet, but a very nicely fitted out 26 footer with every keel choice you could want on the water with all the bits for £45k

The first boat I looked at just over the bridge. I thought it seemed very good value and am look forward to reading Snook's review if he can be bothered what with the Brooms and Lagoons he get to see.

Why pay £45K for a 25 ft when you can buy a pretty good 30 ft second hand for that?

because some people like to buy new!

However, in principle I agree at that size boat it is difficult to justify the cost compared with the alternatives.

There is a market in poland for that sort of boat because the market is at a different stage in its development - that is very few used boats - and the main areas for sailing re in the lakes where this sort of boat is very suitable.

Not easy to sell boats built for one market environment in another, different one.

Nice boat. We had a look inside and out. my only gripe would be that it needs an outboard or you lose that rather lovely open plan rear berth. Is there enough charging in the outboard they recommend in the £1000 package? Is the EU stability the correct category for your sailing?

The Maxus seemed good but secretly I rather hoped Beneteau would bring their First 25 along to the show. I could nearly be tempted but, alas, no First 25 on the pontoons or ashore. Inboard diesel too!

Of course they do, & I can fully understand that. But it does highlight the problem manufacturers have. seems a waste of time even bringing it to SIBS. But i hope that it was worthwhile for them & that they want to come again.

Really? The one with the plumb bow and twin rudders? Looks very different to the Beneteau and Jeanneau 25s of recent (and older) years.

Please find me a used one to buy at a bargain price!

It's a development of the First 260 Spirit which has been around since 1994. Second hand prices hold up pretty well as they're good little boats. Finot designs were often ahead of their time hence it still looks pretty fresh.

I can't remember if it was that one or the one across the way next to the Legend, but the interior felt like it was a badly done home built rather than 'professionally' built. The hatch panels in the cabin sole weren't cut straight, and the light switch was hanging out - I tried to push it back into the hole, but the cabling behind the switch wouldn't let the switch body go back enough!
