Maxum are part of the huge Brunswick corporation in the States.

<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.brunswick.com/>http://www.brunswick.com/</A>

They also own Bayliner, Searay and SEALINE boats as well as Mercury Engines which is why most Maxums have Mercruiser engines.

Many people, including myself, would argue that Maxum are towards the top end of the quality/specification ladder, i.e. below Searay but well above Bayliner. Their pricing is similar with Searay commanding a premium price in the UK - more so that in the States.

Tell us what size boat you are looking for, for more advice.

I've had a 2100SC for 3 years, very please with it had it doing 50knots on Sunday in flat conditions. Not had any problems with it at all agree with comments others have made well above binliner in quality almost as good as searay but more modern designs and features etc.

dont have one!, but noticed alot of 2300 cuddies for sale for some reason. Maybe they just sold well new. Have heard they benefit price wise from having the in-house mercruiser engine, as mentioned elsewhere. Quality and price in the upper third, but not sure Id say up at the top. Not that that matters, of course....

Hi, thanx (all) for your replys. I'm looking at the 4100, and 4600 (both flybridge) and they seem quite a bit cheaper than the UK/European equivilents!! Was just wandering why, is it to do with quality etc etc?!

With such a huge home (and export) market then numbers certainly come into it. Do not know about exact build quantities but I am sure Maxum are building in much larger numbers than say Sealine so economies of scale come into it.

Also Dollar is relatively weak against the Pound $1.60 to £1.00 so this helps to keep price down either when importing from new or secondhand.

Finally UK/European equivalents have a perceived higher value. This is to do with availability, design, kudos and even quality. How much of this is real and how much perceived is very much in the eye of the beholder so you pays your money and makes your choice.

Remember that resale values of American boats are also likely to be lower so actual depreciation on an American boat could be similar to UK/European equivalent.

Take a look at http://www.yachtsurvey.com/boatreviews/maxum46.htm
We looked at the 4100 and the 4600 a few years ago and found them to be very spacious (as most US boats are) and well equipped. I drove a 4600 and liked it a lot. Only thing we didn't like at all was the guest cabin headroom. It's a bit like a cave - worse in the 4100. V.g value for money, all the same. Not as popular over here (US) as Sea Ray and Cruisers, but I think better qual than Cruisers and bit lower qual than Sea Ray. There's another make from Brunswick marine recently intro'd - Meridian. They look even better value for money than Maxum.
