I'm thinking of changing my Westerly Seahawk's current in mast sail for a fully battened Maxi Roach.
All the blurb says that I can get better performance - is this true? Anyone had any experience with this Maxi Roach?

Yes, I'm very pleased. It's true to say that my Ben 36 needed better sails anyway but the difference was marked. I then went the whole hog and had the Genoa changed as well. (batten the length of the forestay)! Points much better than I had even expected and whilst she is no performance boat we did outperform some expectedly faster boats this weekend.

Make sure that you estabish just when the delivery is going to take place. A friend of mine is very unhappy whith several aspects of their service and certainly will not be going back. Nick

I also have in mast reefing with a flat sail [feels like 1st reef] with no roach. When I was feeling a bit flush a year or so ago I discussed this same topic with Arun Sails who I find very helpful. [They are the "home" loft for my Southerly].

At the end of the day the conclusion was that it was probably not really worth it for the slight performance increase bearing in mind the cost. THey were not protecting their own market because they have some arrangement whereby they can make them or sub it out.

You could do worse than giving Arun a ring because with them being the house supplier to Northshore [Fisher, Southerly] they will have a lot of experience of what works in in-mast reefing.

They had earlier made me a c/chute in a sock which was very good and at a good price - very good service as well all the way through.

Best wishes

Andrew
