Maxi 1100

Does anyone have any experience/views on Maxi yachts, especially the Maxi 1100?
I've been looking at the HR 36 and, whilst it is a lovely boat, I do have some concerns about perfomance, especially as it seems impossible to get hold of a late one without in-mast reefing. I've had a quick look at a Maxi and was quite impressed. I wonder if it's a good compromise between scandinavian quality and good performance?
Any opinions gratefully received.

Can't comment on the 1100 specifically but we live on the 120 and really like her. Roomy and good stowage, centre cockpit ketch. Not the fastest boat Pettersen ever built, but designed for cruising rather than cruiser racing.

V good build quality - being a '70's boat our GRP is particualrly thick.

I've owned a Maxi 1100 for nearly 4 years buying it from new. I also test sailed the HR36, albeit the older model and the Malo 36. Basically she's a different animal from the HR and Malo. Much, much quicker, stiff as a church steeple and as far as I can tell, superbly built. I can vouch for her speed with some of my passage times: Chichester to Falmouth in 28 hrs, Scillies to L'Aberwrach in 18 hrs, which isn't bad for a 36' cruiser. My brother has a Maxi 1000. Good cruiser - with a decent turn of speed.

Not the roomiest 10m boat around though
