Mattresses - Any Suggestions

Just back from SBS and ordered a pair of sprung matresses for my Maxi 1100. Total SBS special cost was £359.00 for the forecabin. Normal price would be £550.00. I ordered them from www.beddingforboats.com.

Can I ask - how did you get a double mattress down your companionway? I was going to buy an 8" mattress (actually for a double quarterberth) also from Susan Hughes, but when I looked at how to get it in I had to abort the plan and I'm looking again at memory foam - for the unfortunate reason that it seems to be all I can physically get in to the cabin.

Any advice?!

We ordered a pocket sprung mattress with memory foam topper, from Marine Bedding. It has a 'split and zip' not only to get it into the boat, but also because I need access to batteries and steering gear under the bed in question. Shifting a double mattress out of the way wouldn't be easy in an emergency situation.

we've used interlocking foam mats like this on our boat, over the v berth and also on the cabin floor.

then we also have two self inflating double mattresses that can double up in the v berth. they are waterproof and so can also be used as cockpit cushion or to make a sofa type situation in the galley area.

personally i find conventional cushions heavy and that they can get very damp and musty.
