Matsutec AIS HP-33A and VesselFinder: only MMSI showing?

I assume you've given it enough time for the static message to go out? That only happens every six minutes, on alternate channels. Best leave it on for several cycles in case the receiver happens to miss one or two.

Do VesselFinder list the shore stations they use, like Marine Traffic do? Which one picked up your dynamic messages, and how far away is it?

I left it a couple of hours, but it seems to be working now after being left on all night.

I can't find any reference to the RX station, but this would be useful to know.

I plan to normally use a stubby antenna on the push-pit for the transponder, I just connected the mast-head antenna for testing; I've also got AIS receive on my Standard Horizon GX2100E.

Hi Nigel

Have you got your Matsutec AIS HP-33A unit connected in any way to your SH GX2100E or are you using it as a 'stand alone' unit, my reason for asking is I have the same radio connected to my SH 300i chart plotter and I have been looking at the Matsutec AIS HP-33A but guess it's better to use it as a stand alone unit.

I am surprised SH have not come out with a transponder unit that could link into my existing AIS set up as many boat owners have the same SH set up.

MarineTraffic doesn't seem to see any of the boats in my marina, but VesselFinder picks up my AIS (if I use the mast-head antenna): http://www.vesselfinder.com/?mmsi=235000902

However, it is only showing the MMSI. I've filled in the boat name on the HP-33A (and appended my phone number as there is space).

Do I have a problem?

Always seems to take a long time for my static vessel name data to work its way through, often several hours. I suspect but can't be certain, that name etc in busy areas is transmitted very infrequently for static targets, only the MMSI, I can't think of any other reason to explain exactly the same phenomenon.
