I have just got some quotes of mast manufactures for a replacement mast.
All quotes are for a single spreader mast with nothing else fitted.

There is quite a big difference between the quotes the most expensive is double the price of the cheapest.

I can buy the cheapest and get a boom, rigging, winch pads, mast climbing steps, cleats, VHF ariel, Tri colour, and radar bracket all including VAT for less than the ex Vat price of the most expensive

I know you usually only get what you pay for but is there going to be a big difference between the masts?

Would one be stronger than the other?

The manufactures are
Selden
Eurospars
Z-spars

Are there any to be avoided?

I looked at all the options when buying my mast and decided between Z-Spars and Sailspar.

There should be no problems with relative strength as a good mast supplier will know the required 'xx' and 'yy' stiffness required for your craft and quote for the correct section. He will also be able to tell you the weight /meter or foot.

I went for Sailspar and ended up with the same Sparcraft section I would have had from my most expensive quote but it was much less than half the price.

Some of the dearer quotes I got used the same section as Z-Spars themselves quoted.

I ended up buying a bare pole kit which cut the cost even more.

I was given an exceptionally good quote by them at SIBS just when I was ready to buy.

They could not match the price quoted by Z-Spars for a 'seconds' boom (Overlength supplied with one set of end fittings loose).
